Ok, a few months ago me and my bro chris (nismoser) went to englishtown to drag race. WE both only had warm air intake and exaust and timing. I was on my stock clutch at the time. Our last run of the night we both hit 15.3's. Here is my timeslip from that run.
r/t: .508
60' 2.368
330 6.406
1/8: 9.847
mph: 71.62
1000: 12.804
1/4: 15.320
mph: 88.47

ok, that nite it was nice and cool and perfect for racing. Since then, i put in a custom cai, motor mounts, a new clutch, and most importantly, a 5th gen hotshot header. We went back to the track last night and got two runs. My best run of the night was a 15.464. Timeslip from that run.

r/t: .555
60': 2.311
330: 6.484
1/8: 9.951
mph: 71.04
1000: 12.937
1/4: 15.464
mph: 88.29.

Now, it was around 68 degrees last night. Can someone please explain to me how in the world i ran a worse time with more mods and a better 60 foot?? I just dont understand it. I was thourougly dissapointed with last night. My mph didnt even increase in the quarter. My shift points were as follows. 1 to 2 shift at 7, 2 to 3 shift at 6700, 3 to 4 shift at 6700. Am i shifting too early?? What is going on here. The car feels much stronger then it did, yet i have nothing to show for it. I did have to remove my aiv equipment because the hotshot doesnt come with it, could i be running rich?? I know this is long, but if anyone can offer some help, i will not go insane trying to figure it out. Thanks in advance..John.

were you shifting into 4th when you didn't have the mods? I ask because i am assuming your ecu goes upto 7500 and i know that i can hit 90 in 3rd.

has the clutch broken in properly?
How are the plugs?
Did you check the header fitment?

Same track?

Same track, the header fitment seems to be leak free, plugs have about 8k on them, i havent checked them recently. I guess its possible i was shifting too early. Yes, i can get 3rd up to 90 and yes 7500 redline and the time i ran my best run of 15.320, i stayed in 3rd til the end. Also, i weighed my car with me in it, and it clocked in at 2780. I didnt expect it to weigh that much. That was with me a 1/8 tank of gas and no spare. And, my boy chris just installed his pacesetter, and we have identical mods and he had two runs of 15.6's.

Remove the two 10" subs & put on the stock 14" wheels.

My subs and spare and jack were out of the car and the wheels i have now are only 15's. My buddy chris is now the owner of my former wheels/tires. any other suggestions??

You are shifting waaaay too early. Shift at redline for both shifts. Leave her in 3rd.

The header shifts the powerband towards redline - you most likely really feel it kick in until after 4k rpms. You still have good power up there. Redline that puppy! :)

This is yet another point where people realize that it is kinda hard to gain on the strip. Just cause you have more stuff doesn't mean it will be faster. THere is no telling what kind of Hp difference you would have to get to make a real difference.

You know what Antonio, i had a feeling thats where the problem lied. I was so used to shifting early with my previous setup without the header, that i didnt take into account the powerband shift with the header. Im hoping next time i got that this works better hitting redline on each and leaving it in third. I was hoping to hit at least a 15.1 last night.....that will be my goal next time with the new shift points. Thanks again......John.

Leave it in 3rd. You should see a difference that way.

I agree that you are shifting way to early, you are shifting like you have a B14 with a stock ecu, you have a NX man take it to 7500. Take the first two gears to redline there is no need for 4th gear thats just a waste of time.

No point in me starting a new thread.

I had to run tonight without a tach. Mine doesn't like to work anymore.

My launches were terrible....2.35 and then a 2.45 because I can't tell what I'm launching at. I shifted by looking at my tach, because with the windows up and a helmet on you can't hear the engine.

Nonetheless, I managed to hit 15.6 and trap at 89.2 MPH, better than my previous run (MPH-wise) 15.3 @ 88.7. This was at the same track, same conditions: about 65 degrees, no humidity. Well, it was a Wednesday this time instead of a saturday :P

Also, I weighed my car too...it weighed in at 2688 with me in the car. I weigh 153 soaking wet, which makes my car about 2535 pounds, give or take. This was with 1/4 of gas, no system, spare, jack, tools, etc.

I hope to go to Atco this friday and give them a whirl. However, I'm still racing blindly without a tach.

Every car there seemed to be running slow....except for the AWD cars. That leads me to believe that the track surface wasn't as good as it could have been....or its just me making excuses!

Did the tires spin on the upshifts? Did they spin on your runs before the new mods?

On my first run (we only got two runs) i hit a 15.5 and yes the tires broke loose going into second, but i also had a 2.4 60 foot.

I don't spin the tires on the upshifts. Doing that wastes time.

Thats what I was getting at. I didn't mean on purpose though. :)
Also, every tenth you loose in the first 60' is multiplied several times by the end of the strip.

Yeah, i definately wasnt trying to intentionally spin my tires on the 1-2 shift. For my second run with the 2.311 60 foot i pretty much just dropped the clutch at 4k and went full throttle. The track was pretty sticky last night, i bogged on my first run, hence the 2.4 60'.

I always do better when I spin on the 1 to 2 shift.

But I have to say REDLINE THAT BAD BOY!!!
Damn! Thats what the 7,500 redline is for!!:D

I hit a 15.5 @ 91mph though with stock headers, 91' intake cam, ACT cluctch, and greddy exhaust.....so by me trapping 3 more mph than you, you are doing something wrong. Cause you have headers which should help your top end. Start redlining that evil egg!

I'm sure you will see a huge improvement. I ran a 14.9 @ 91.5mph with timing, Gen 3 headers, CAI, and GReddy exhaust (1.97" ID). So, with your mods you should be right around a 15 flat or 15.1 as you predicted since you're a little heavier for some reason (or maybe the scale is out of wack, did you see if it zeroed out with nothing on the scale??).

Also, try to get that 60' time down...2.3 is kinda bleh, but a 2.2 would be nice. Should knock off nearly two tenths from your ET.

Good luck!

Here's my 2 cents worth: Drop your tire pressure
Make all shifts at 7500
* Go through the traps in 3rd
(unless you're 2 close to fuel cut, then go to 4th)

* I also think shifting at 7500 might the 3-4 shift necessary *

Hopefully, this should help you get into the high 14's w/ your current mods. Have fun finding out. Keep us posted on the progress.
