Are you turning on the nut that locks the tie rod or on the tie rod end itself? When you get the nut loose the tie rod end will unscrew easily!

I have to replace my tie rod end too. How did you go about doing that? Just get the end off of the ball joint and then unscrew it? Mine has grease all over the end of it. Thanks

BTW, how much did the part cost

You need a 17mm and 19mm open end wrenches. Loosen the tie rod nut (it was really hard the first time).

There are 2 (or more) ways to remove the ball joint. I don't use a ball joint tool, I use a BFH. Loosen the ball joint nut until it is even with the ends of the threads. Then give the nut a good whack with the BFH, and it pops right off.

I bought some aftermarket tie rod ends for my 91 SE-R. They were half the price of OEM ones ($17 vs $35) and they fit, but I don't like them. They use 2 one-dimensional mechanisms to pivot in all directions instead of a true sphere-in-socket type, and they aren't sealed with an integral dust boot like the Nissan ones. I'm going to stick with Nissan from now on.
