: Bad idea to autox with clicking CV?

The inner boot was the one that ripped, and obviously it is the same one that is clicking. This is the driver's side axle, FYI.

It just started clicking last week, about 2-3 weeks after I first found the ripped boot. Since its the inner one, it doesn't click as often or as loudly as the outer ones do.

That said and done, would it be a bad idea to autocross with the joint like it is? I don't quite have the funds just yet to replace it....but I'll be autox-ing for the first time on Saturday.

TIA

well, think of it this way.... you might need a tow truck.

You don't have the funds to replace it but you have the funds to auto x, :p dude its like 60 bucks at a local auto shop, I would replace but then again I've dragged on a clicking axle and was lucky but when playing the odds game you can't get burned.

Well, the thing is i've promised to go to this. I'm a man of my word so I can't back out. And when I say I can't afford it, I meant before the race. I can afford to replace it next week...just not now :(

Go for it. IMHO drag racing is harder on the cv joints.

your biggest fear should be letting something (like a small rock) get into the joint and really destroying it. the dirt that is already in there won't increase wear too dramatically. Just get a new boot for now. Those can't be too expensive (less than $10, I'd imagine). You'll be able to get through the weekend, at least.

well, after drag racing late into friday night, i decided to skip out on autocrossing this morning. I would have had to leave my house by 6am (after getting home at 130am) in order to be at registration by 8am. No thanks.

Instead, i spent the night with the girlfriend and woke up at 130pm :)
