So this year i became competitor support for a pontiac solstice and drove along with the targa event. Got to meet Steve Millen and shot a lot of footage of the race and his car. The Car is nuts Steve placed 6th overall and 1st in his class here are some pics.

The last pic is of Stillens car and my cousins GT3 RS. Tom (cousin) placed 3rd in his class but was in second behind stillen until the second last day when a flat tire on a stage dropped himn back one spot. Tough luck.

I moved this thread to a more appropriate category.

Nice to see that Bruce Jackson, an NX2000 guy (co-driving a Datsun 240Z with a Rover V8) finished - came in 12th in Classic, 28th overall.

I can't believe what came in first overall!!

I didn't think they'd continue to dominate with more higher hp cars in the event. It's kind of nice to see, actually :D

Yeah the targa times are a lot easier for the classic division to achieve....keep in mind im not taking away from their driving skills because they have their stuff together but the top 5 places overall were all classic division. The faster the car the harder the targa times are to get. Here are some pics of the Gt3 rs

I cant wait to do it again next year.

Oooo. So you're saying that even though you may be first overall, it's because of weighting or handicapping faster vehicles? If so, I didn't realize that.

Interior looks very comfy. I wanted to see the interior because I suspected it would have a removable cage, and be street use most of the time. Am I right? Full dash and it looks like carpeting in there (as well as radio, etc.)

Thats right. The faster the car the faster the targa times they have to achieve. Its all to do with the car year/size/engine displacement and modifications and they are classed accordingly.Somewhat like bracket racing in the drag strip.

And yes my cousins car has somewhat of a full interior except from the front seats back. Funny cause id call him on transits and he'd be blaring Metallica. The cage is a full cage but completely removable. Its a very nice piece and the boys in socal spent a lot of time on the install and did an awesome job.The car was very sound and never gave any mechanical problems.

This is his Race car though and he will be bringing it to various circuits for racing. He also has a 2007 GT500 as his daily driver

Looks like the Pulsar GTi-R suffered a turbo failure (or something far worse) at this year's event:

PS Yeah, modern cars are at a major disadvantage at Targa -- but whatever, it's a non-professional event that's an insanely large amount of fun...

There is a series of pics on Stillen's blog showing a little white smoke, then a lot, then a freakin' cloud of what looks like maybe steam, blown head gasket maybe...IDK.

Too bad, I love that car, it's so well sorted (well, mostly I guess).

That GTiR? Really? That car was lapping at Mosport on the practice day for a race in August, it was slower than my (150hp) car. Maybe he was breaking in an engine or something...or maybe it's not set up for circuit racing.

He was doing pretty well until the latter stages, well placed in the upper half of the field overall and very well placed in class. And no, he probably would not be set up well for circuit racing. Suspension, gearing, the Targa is tight, rough in sections, really a mostly paved long endurance fast Rally in the competitive classes. Nice car and prob at Mosport or somewhere similar in this pic.
