: Gauging Interest in B14 Lower Tie Bars.

I've been building 2pt and 4pt lower tie bars for the B15 chassis cars for a few years now.

Recently I tried fitting one of my on a friend's B14 and it fit. It just hung down too low.

Easy fix.

So I built another one for him with less clearance under the engine cradle (doesn't hang down so low). We have not test fit it back on his car yet - probably won't until he is off work on Monday.

What's the availability like on B14 lower tie bars?

On the B15, one problem that some people run into with name brand LTBs is clearance below a larger exhaust. Since my parts are hand built, I can adjust the design of the bars per request. I can build them custom to the customer's specs with just as much extra clearance as the customer wants.

I can also do custom powdercoating colors on request.

Would there be interest in such a product? Or should I just install this one for Brandon and call it a successful project?

how low will it sit on the b14 car?
is it lower than the exhaust?

Sorry, you are too late. http://www.overkillengineeringmotorsports.com/ already has this for the b14/b13.

This is a pic of the one prototype I built, installed on a freind's B14.

This is the B15 bar I build installed on a B14 - extra clearance under the exhaust if someone needed that. And I can do it with any amount of extra clearance the buyer wants - from 0 clearance at the crossmember to 1" clearance at the crossmember.

That is the B14 bar with the wheels back on the ground - the Gatorade bottle is for reference on ground clearance (didn't have the obligatory Coke can :) )

And, FWIW, I sell these for the B15 for ~$70 shipped. They are powdercoated in a variety of colors (although most people want red), they are built from 1" .087 wall DOM, 1.5" .120 wall DOM end cups, with 1/8" steel plate on the "bottom" of the cups.

A B14 bar would be the same price, because it uses essentially the same amount of steel. I could also probably do a 4pt for something like $130 shipped.

Just throwing all that out there...

That car can't be lowered. If you look at how beat up that crossmember is, that bar will be gone in no time.

The crossmember is tore up because the previous owner didn't stop when they pulled up to a parking curb. The bar is far enough back that the wheels will climb up the parking curb before the bar hits it.

I sell a lot of these to guys with lowered B15s, they hang 1/2"-3/4" lower than the B14 bar. I've had three people out of the 100+ that I have sold that have damaged their bars by hitting them on something. Two were from automatic car wash machinery, one was a guy that fell asleep at the wheel and straddled a median curb, and totaled his car in the process.

If your car is so low that hitting something is a danger, then your car is too low. Your geometry is screwed up and it's killing your handling and you won't benefit from a lower tie bar anyway.

I didnt think people even drove that badly to do something like that to their xmember, wow. I'd be very interested in this, but I'd need to install my 3" exhaust first to see what kind of clearance I needed.

What kind of turnaround am I looking at once I place an order with you?

Hey guys, the car in question is mine.

Joekuh, I bought the car from a couple in which the husband taught his wife to drive in so the car is beat up in several different places, haha. It's my daily beater and the only reason we even did this to see if the b15 would fit (I read that b15 nismo bars fit so we gave it a shot)

Anyways it's really hard to hit the lower tie bar on anything. To do so you'd have to straddle something since it sits between the wheels. When you go over something like a speed bump, the bar moves up in proportion to the wheels. The engine crossmember can take a beating since it can hit an item before the wheels have a chance to rise up over item (in this case a parking curb)

And for reference, the lower tie bar on my b15 sits only 4" from the ground and I haven't hit it on anything.

Also Eric, you're right my car is stock ride height.

And Nate, nothing wrong with a little competition. I can also name 2 other companies (off the top of my head) that make them as well.

Mine still is the only one, we're still mostly focused on b15 parts (we're currently working on a 4 point strut tower bar).

If you want one and need some extra clearance just measure how low your exhaust sits as compared to your engine crossmember between the lower control arms (where it would attach) and we'll make it clear for you.

PM me with the measurements you need and I'll get a price to you.

would this be able to work on the b13 chassis?

Yes it will fit the B13. I would be interested in one as well. I know Overkill makes them however right now their customer service is non existent. Also these use solid ends instead of heim joints which makes it sturdier IMO. There is no flex like with heims.

70 shipped seems like a good deal for a solid bar.
I would be down for at least one.
