Is it true that the only front STB that will fit the 1999 SE Limited is the one offered from Courtesy Nissan? Has anyone tried any other brands, like Vibrant? I'm thinking about getting a STB, but I don't know if I want to pay the exchange rate, shipping and any duties on top of the price just to get the thing into Canada.

I have the Freedom Design STB from NOPI.com. It's not the prettiest, but it works.

the $tillen will fit w/ the least probs. it is prolly the most expensive one, also (imagine that!). the courtesy unit is nice but you have to play w/ it a lil' to make it clear the emissions crap on the plenum. sr20development lists a eibach stb, but i don't know of anyone using it on a sel.

My Stillen bar fits like a glove.

Thanks for the info guys.

Stillen will probably be way too much money by the time I convert it to Canadian dollars. I'll look into the Freedom stb. Stiletto, what was involved in 'playing' with the Courtesy bar?

Stupid question, but what exactly is involved in installing a front STB?

I will chime in late. Courtesy is about $80. It is imported from somewhere overseas. I have seen several STB's that look just like the Courtesy bar with the exception of the mounting plate not being flat. Some of them have some ridges stamped into them that would make using the GC Camber Caster plates difficult or possibly impossible. I have also heard you can get the non-courtesy ones for well under $50. If you never plan on using the GC Camber Caster Plates I would save my money. As far as fitment with the Courtesy bar (others look exactly the same) I had to put the bar between a couple blocks of wood an slightly bend it a little more then it came from the dealer. No big deal at all. Also, point the bar/bend forward to clear the emissions crap. Motor mounts also help the engine to not move around a lot and hit the bar. Before you close the hood take some aluminum foil and make a louse ball and place this on the bar at the point it is most likely to hit the hood. Slowly close the hood (in two stages) checking to see how much clearance you have between the hood and the bar.

I bought an arospeed for $35 shipped from groupbuycenter.com
It didn't fit at first but I just unscrew a a few bolt for some kind of copper colored pipe which was in the way and moved it out of the way. It fits fine. I had it on for two years already. Doesn't feel like it does anything for handling though.

really?! i think it made the whole front end feel like it is unison. the rear STB also made a huge difference in fast cornering.

I hate driving my car without one with the GC 300/200 springs. Way to harsh.

you are able to "roll" the bar foward a bit. thus when the engine moves up and down, the brace doesn't make contact w/ anything. i also did a lil' grinding on the emission thingy that it hits.

i have always believed: "there are no stupid questions, only stupid people asking questions". ;)
you'll simply remove the 3 nuts for each strut tower and place the STB mount on the car and replace the nuts which now go thru the STB mounts. then you want to adjust the bar to the appropriate length, ** securing it to the mounts. once the length is correct, secure it w/ the provided hardware.

only stupid people asking questions

duh....thanks I think:rolleyes:

Sounds easy enough to install. I'll probably hold off on buying one untill I find out what's going on with my car right now (the warped tires).

that was NOT meant as a remark towards you. it was one of those statements i shoulda put a ;) ;) afterwards. (sometimes it's hard to convey sarcasm across the internet) ask anyone on this forum, i'm not one of the "slam the new guy/gal" types. we ALL had questions in the beginning. but without people asking 'em, we'd never get the answers, right? :)
