do any of you guys race a stock, or close to stock car? maybe just for the fun of it or something...maybe to see how far you can actually push your car?
i was thinking of going somewhere, just to have fun. I have no knowledge of entering a car/requirements/etc., so obviously i am/would be reading up.
any suggestions for racing a stock car? i'm not trying to beat anyone at the track, just trying to have fun in a safer way then on the streets.
and the closest track to me is Limerock i think. If that helps anyone.

It's not too hard to get your feet wet. You'll need high temp brake fluid and some track day brake pads from Hawk or someone like that, and a helmet. That's all you really need the first time. Look at the Limerock calendar to see who's rented the track, and then contact that organization to see what their requirements are to participate. I do NASA HPDEs (2 days) and SCCA PDXs (1 day). I've also gone out with a local corvette club for a day. 1 day would be best your first time; 2 days is hard on your car, reliability wise.

many of us got started with a stock car including me.. GO FOR IT!!!
The only thing I did before my very 1st track day was changed the brake fluid since my tires and brakes were still almost new at the time!

I've driven Lime Rock Park and it's a blast. It's shorter than most tracks, but it's a roller-coaster of a drive.
Other than changing/updating the brake fluid/pads/rotors as mentioned already, I recommend to flush the radiator and use the least amount of antifreeze (mixed with DISTILLED water) that you can get away with in the NE. Then add Redline's Water Wetter to the mix.
TIRES - You gotta have good performance tires or you'll overheat and chunk 'em.
And finally, overfill the engine oil by 1/4 to 1/2 quart or the SR20DE starves for oil during high-G turns.
Going to the track with the SCCA or NASA is likely the most affordable. Check Lime Rock's schedule and see which clubs have booked events. Then contact the given club to find costs and requirements.

Been using a Pure stock engined GA16DE for the past 2 years for Hillclimb and circuit.
1. just get better grip tires - anywhere from 140 to 180 treadwear
2. DOT 4 brake fluid with performance pads and Stainless steel brake lines
3. replace your Motor Mounts with Polyurethane inserts or solid mounts
As your driving skill improves, modify the car as needed

Look for HPDE's combined with TT's if you want to test out your speed a little, EMRA is running at Lime Rock on Saturday Oct 24th - practice sessions with instructor, $10 for a temporary TT license, ~$250 for the day with usually 4 sessions on track plus a Time Trial (2 1/2 lap format, 1/2 lap warmup usually and 2 full timed laps). No special equipment required, TT's are great fun to test your car w/o any traffic, after spending some time with an instructor (provided) and learning the course.

Friday is competitive club racing wheel-to-wheel, so look at Saturday. Also I think MVP is running at LRP on the 31st, check their post in this section.

I have raced my Sentra from stock to heavily modified and evrything in between. I spent most of my time on Falken Azenis tires (Relatively cheap). Brake fluid, pads and water wetter are a must. Have fun and be safe.
