By a show of replies how many people have done a DET swap and did not know that you are suppost to take out the automatic flex plate ring adaptor and insert a pilot bearing?

Or for that matter how many have you paid for a DET swap by a swap shop and don't know for a fact that they took out the automatic flex plate rings adapter and installed a pilot bearing.

You can run a DET with the automatic flex plate ring adapter because it doesn't get in the way clutch but you still don't have a pilot bearing in the bore. Just some food for thought you might be breaking your trannys becasue of this allowing more torque movement through the shaft when loaded resulting in possible contact caseing or unwanted angles of engagement.

optional NISMO pilot bearing (roller bearing) stock one is a brass bushing

Here you can see the NISMO pilot bushing install and the flexplate ring adaptor removed

i removed mine when i swapped transmissions tried using the pulley thingy (forgot what it was called) but that was a pita! i then packed it with nissan silicone grease and used a socket and extension to plug the socket hole (which fit perfectly) in the bearing and plopped it out no fuss about it in 1 minute.

The input shaft of the FWD SR20DE transmission does not engage the pilot bearing in the crank. Only the RWD SR20DE and SR20DET trannies engage the pilot bearing. Therefore, it is not necessary to remove the flexplate adaptor.

Is this piolet bushing out of a RWD or FWD engine? If its FWD, whats the NISMO part number? I know someone who's putting a GTiR piolet bearing(which is acctually a bearing and not a piece of copper like ours) in a USDM SR20 and they're putting an extension on the end of the imput shaft so it rides in the bearing..

The statement above is true don't worry about changing it.

Hey charlie,
How come you removed your Automatic flex plate ring adaptor?

Because at the time I thought it needed the pilot bearing but it turns out that you don't. The reason for taking it out is because the pilot bearing wouldn't go in through the flex plate ring adapter. Just a big waste of time it turns out by the way that is not a pic of my engine I guess the guy that bought nismo pilot bearing wasted his money though.

Does Nissan Motorsports sell this or is it a NISMO item? I get these two confused....does anyone know the part number? I'd still like to install one next time I have my tranny off...I know it would probably only ride in the very end of it, but hey...its worth it....

No bro you don't understand the pilot bearings ID is to small in the first place to go over the OD of the input shaft. Second the input shaft isn't even log enough to make contact with the pilot bearing so you would just be wasting your time and money to be honest. In our case it shouldn't be called a pilot bearing but rather a clutch alignment tool guide. And no need for roller bearings to align the clutch.

my act clutch came with a copper pilot bearing and i don't believe we installed it even though u say it is not nessasary, what's the worst that can happen if installed

Nothing, but just give you a better intial alignment of the clutch disc because the clutch alignment tool will not be loose in the hole.

But also if you have an automatic swap there is still no need to take the flexplate ring adaptor out for it is the same diameter as the clutch alignment tool and will work just as good for intial alignment of the clutch disc.

I have been aware of this fact for a while, I notice when I got the new piolet bushing that it wouldn't even go over the end of the imputshaft! But I was just going to see if the roller piolet NISMO bushing would go over the end of it, and if it was too far down inside, I was going to shim it out so it would be over the end of the imput shaft...I just wanna experiement...so I take it no one has the part number for the NISMO piolet bushing..? I'll take a look in the Nissan Motorsports Catalog....

so let me get this straight i do not need the det automatic flex plate and the usdm pilotbearing for the install because the one i reiced did not even go over the input shaft.

in your sig..you say the hell with jwt...its for people who dont know how to tune.. if you knew about tuning.. then what are you doin with a engine heater on your valve cover... makes no sense.. none at all.

it wont work anyways.. what v8killer said is true... the input shaft on the det tranny or rwd is smaller. i personally havent messed with the nismo bearing.. but it should work...
