assumign the budget allows, my goal for this winter is to get a real functioning LSD in my car, i am tired of wheelspin coming out of turns 1 at VIR and summit, through the carousel at summit and particulaly out of oak tree at VIR

question, doesn't look like there are many options left,

my understanding is the NISMO is out of production, quaiife is not an option

maybe there is a CUSCO LSD for our cars, anyone have that or know where to get it?

what am i left with, phantom grip lsd? anything else

I think Matt N had an OPM style diff in his.

There is another option. I haven't researched it, but you might look into the Primera LSD OS Giken makes. If it fits the Primera, it should fit a B13 tranny.

I was lucky enough to buy the last two Nismo LSDs. And whoever stole the first one I bought from the FedEx warehouse... well, I just wonder where that ended up sometimes - bastard! :)

Why would he buy another transmission? To get the old worn out viscous LSD that doesn't do anything on a race track? He might as well just install a cantaloupe in the case.

And even new, there's no comparison between a mechanical and VLSD.

Is "break out the welder" an option?

Lol, good old Lincoln Locker?

Not too many options for our cars anymore, sorry to say. The OS Gilken diff sounds intriguing, but you'd probably run into some sort of hurdle.

Are any of the non-lsd Nismo diffs still available?

What's a non-lsd Nismo diff?

Nismo made a unit that would fit in the non-lsd cases to provide the same type of system

Ahh, thank you Grasshopper.

Maybe the Phantom Grip as an inexpensive option? I'm considering it while I climb the ladder of HPDEs to get a comp ticket.
Will you also tackle the 5th Gear Repair Kit while installing the LSD?

Mike Kojima likes the Phantom Grip option.

That's everything I could gather on LSD's.

Checking this thread for any additional information to add. ;)

Quaife is def out of production, but NISMO units have been available still at least as of last year - but IIRC it was Greg Amy who didn't think the even the 1.5 way NISMO LSD was really enough for racing, but Mike seems to like it ok.

Phantom grip is still available, not a bad lower cost option. Plus you can run it with a stiffer spring set if you want it to lock up earlier, etc.

Or put up WTB on a NISMO - I saw at least one sell NIB in the last 10 months here on the forum, same for a Quaife. People buy these and stick them on the shelf intending to use them but for some reason their plans get derailed, then they show up FS again.

Or you could try the cantaloupe, LOL!

They are discontinued. SPNX got the last one in Canada, and some "other guy" posting in this thread got the last one in the US....... ;)

I found a NISMO NIB LSD for my U13 ('95) which is so rare (12% of the U13's were MT) and could not believe it was $325. Guy just didn't seem to care that MSRP was well over $1100. I've never seen them for sale before or since anywhere.

I missed this post. I did with mine. It was a "while we're in there" thing. You might as well. I did the 5th gear kit and all the seals and bearings.

*someone* bought that dang LSD and isnt going to use it ;)

Id like to see someone do a 'spool' for their race car and see how it feels

Kevin,
I had a diff welded up like a spool last year for a race weekend at Barber's. IT SUCKED!!! It had incredible braking but wouldn't turn harldy at all. I also broke an axle. So I wouldn't want to do a spool in a road race car. As a side note, I drove an ITB Swift with a locked diff and it wasn't too bad. It was a lot lighter though.
