OK. So, let me see if I have this right. Disconnect the TPS. Turn on car and rev to 3000 3 times. Then adjust the distributor until it reads desired timing?
When you rev the motor to 3k, do you wait for the motor to drop down to idle before reving it to 3k again?
How do you set up the timing light?
Thanks
Chris

I'd like to know about the reving part. Do I rev to exactly 3k, or can it go over?
After I rev to 3k, do I let the RPMs drop to idle before reving to 3k again?

Make sure the car is at operating temp. Rev to *around* 3k rpm, let it drop between each rev.
You should notice that after locking the car in timing mode, the idle will stabilize and the timing marks won't "jump around".

Where are the timing marks? Is that what I need the timing light for? I know this is supposed to be easy, and probably anyone can do it who has set there own timing before, but I haven't so I'm just trying to get it right.

the timing marks are on the crank pulley. Aim the timing light at the pulley, and it will flash everytime the timing marks pass by.

I have an aftermarket pulley. Can I still see the marks with this pulley? Also, I tried using a light on the pulley earlier today, but we couldn't find any marks. Do I need a special timing light?

OK. So what does the needle look like on my car? Is it like a thin sharpened pencil? That is the only thing I can guess that I should be setting the timing by. It appears to come off of the block above the crank pulley, but more on the fire wall side of it as opposed to the radiator side of it.
Does anyone know what the timing marks look like on a UR pulley? They aren't the same as a stock pulley, so I need some help there.
Thanks a lot
Chris
