Hey All,

If you have the experience please lend a hand. I know its alot to ask however there are no other R owners around (I'm in Okinawa-only seen three R's in a year. Thanks in advance if you manage to read all of this and lend a hand.

I'm planning on doing an engine rebuild however, this will be my first engine build so I am looking for some advice. Here are some Questions. If you have the answers please let me know. I am prepared for the expenses.

First what all should I get for a rebuild?

When replacing pistons, bearings, and what ever else-are all s13/s14 internal parts compatable. I've done some research and know the piston rods on a gtir are 19mm, I will probably just keep them as they are already forged and shot peened from the factory.

What Valve/spring/retainers-- All valves I see say for Fwd or Rwd what the difference the R is AWD what do I look for when shopping for these?

When replacing pistons will any Piston-86.5 with a compression of 8:5:1 be compatable. I know I've seen where some pistons will break off the oil squiters on the R. (You can't find any parts that say GTIR with out doubling the price that's why I'm interested in the s13/s14 compatability)

Any other advice will be great. I already have a tomei 1.2mm gasket, walbro fuel pump, apexi avc-r boost controller, external BOV, front mount intercooler, uprated clutch.

rcmini You probably have the biggest advantage over 95% of people on here - you're in Japan !!!

I would suggest you join "gtiroc.com". It is a website based in the UK where there is alot of excellent information. Alot of guys there have done their own rebuild.
