: When Cardone builds unique axles...
Calum 09-15-2002, 01:48 PM Background: Replaced drivers side axle with a Cardone rebuild from O'Riellys about 1 month ago. The day it was replaced it started showing signs of something being wrong. Hard corners would result in a severe vibration similair to a tire rolling over.
Anyways, upon pulling this axle out, we decide to take a closer look at it. Comparing to the old one something is clearly different as it seems to be a good inch longer.

FORD!!!!
Lol, the other end in a Nissan piece, but clearly they decided mixing and matching is ok! Monkeys!
slipper 09-15-2002, 02:26 PM ewww a ford part on my nissan, thats a big thumbs down from me.
NismoSER 09-15-2002, 03:30 PM One of the axles I took out of NismoNx2000's car said Ford on it. It was the passenger side axle though. Needless to say, fitment was poor. We had a helluva time trying to get that axle into/out of the support bracket.
80 bucks later, and a reman'd Napa axle, it slides smoothly into the support bracket. Stupid ford parts.
Mike sr20de 09-15-2002, 03:31 PM your nissan has been bastarized! :D
andris 09-15-2002, 08:43 PM No no, before you go getting all upset, this is fairly normal. The joint itself is a fairly universal part, which is manufactured by GKN (which you can see in the picture) The joint is likely the same part number as the one that came on your car from the factory, just happened to come from a domestic supplier. If the axle is actually too long, the shaft itself is probably too long. Seeing Ford on a remanned axle is pretty common. They also didn't put the harmonic dampner back on. (rubber donut on the center of the axle)

bbdet 09-15-2002, 09:22 PM Wow. Well, let me be the first to say their MAF and wiring harness kicks butt!

It was an inch too long. I noticed that when we changed it Saturday. It was hard to tell just by looking at it with the old one, because of the dampner. I have never seen a dampner on a rebuilt axle.
slipper 09-16-2002, 12:48 AM hmm, maybe i should check my axles cause i had a hard time installing them from being to long. gosh ford axles on my nissan, the world is soon coming to an end.
I have Napa, Autozone, and O'Reillys here locally, and I need a new driver's side axle.
What sort of rebuilds are you getting from all of these?
If they all use the same knucklehead rebuilder, I'll pass.
Autozone is only $60 after core refund. As much as I'd like a Raxles halfshaft, they cost over twice as much. What's a safe bet?
RySE-R 1 10-11-2002, 02:44 PM Yeah, um, check out the thread on my broken axles (with pics). I think I had the same kind as you, as mine also said Ford on it. I wonder if the Ford made one's are the only ones that people have had break on them?
hybrid D E T 10-16-2002, 07:57 PM sometimes the axle rebuilders will give you a 200sx axle for a classic. The driver side axle is actually about 3/4" longer than a classic's axle. I had this problem and as soon as i put the axle and drove it i could hear the axle binding on turns. When i went back and got a classic axle, it went away....
Bowlcut 10-16-2002, 09:35 PM I have a Cardone axle from O'Reilly and havent had any trouble out of it. From what i have heard this is a common mistake for what happened to calum though many distrubuters. Cause the outer spline count and length is the same to other cars but the middle(shaft) is different sometimes they get one or two in the wrong bin when rebuilding them. Id just go with who has them in stock probaly. O' Reily here proclaims as having more stock than anyone else, and they are true. they have them in stock, but they didnt have ad22vf rotors....immagine that
