: Tuning Timing on Turbo DEs

So, I just got my calum realtime ecu (thanks calum), and I have been playing with it a lot. My last JWT tune was terrible with a peak timing value of 12 at WOT. I have been looking at MANY bins in Tuner Pro RT, and I see many different approaches to timing. One thing seems certain; timing usually dips or does not ramp up at or near the torque peak (~4300rpm). Most bins have timing ramping up quite a bit from there. I have seen values as high as 26 in the last column/highest row, and I have seem them as low as 12 (my last JWT tune).

I am running a GT2860RS @ 12psi on a stock DE, S4s, 740s, Z32 MAF. The reflash tune I last got from JWT had the peak of 12 degrees. Previously, I had a T25 @ 12psi (dropping to 6 by redline), S4s, 370s @ 4 bar, bored MAF. I saw over 26 degrees of timing by red line on that setup. I am currently running that tune's timing map on my new tune's fuel setting, etc.

Are there any real opinions out there on where the limit of timing is on these motors? I am going to get this on a dyno and see where the power gaines are minimal and not existent. In the mean time, I thought I'd see if anyone had a clue.

Timing is meant to dip a little at peak torque(you should know that)

The S4's and more efficient turbo throws a curveball on the stock timing values compared to what the engine will safely take. Always start at low timing values and work your values up on the dyno until you reach a 'best mean torque' and keep your ear out for knock.

Every engine is different and a bad batch of fuel should always be considered in your tune with a buffer zone, which is what I assume JWT are covering ;) I would be starting at around 16 degrees at 12psi boost ;)
