My NX is overdue for an e-test and since I have a swapped VE, one of the only legit ways to get it passed is under hot rod status. Now, I have talked to few E-test facilities and they are very hesitant to do it since I have no receipt from a reputable shop who installed the engine (I did it myself) and the engine displecement is the same (from 2.0 (DE) to 2.0 (VE)).
Does anyone know a shop that would be a little more "understanding" and allow to pass it under hot rod?
PM me if you have any suggestions, thank you.

how about paying for an etest at a higher rate but guaranteed that it passes without actually bring your car to the shop.... lol

Do you think the VE would be different than the DE and show up during the test? I'm doubtful that it would be noticed.
The VE doesnt kick in until higher RPMs, right??? and the E-test is at idle and relatively low RPMs - I think 40 Kms in 3rd gear.
Might be worth trying to get it tested without mentioning anything to the garage at all.

Well the problem is that JDM motors (including our VEs) do not have any emission equipment like EGR, which makes NOx way above the acceptable limits. Hot Rod will allow to test against 1980 emission standards which are higher than the ones for our engines.
Just need to find a shop that will understand the difference, so far I am getting:
"if you are not changing displacement we cannot e-test under hot rod category"
Let me know if anyone of you knows any people who do e-tests..

If I was you I wouldnt have told them , I just etested my nx at the midas in newmarket , they were pretty easy going so you should try there.
I'm just running a stock de though but I only passed by one point lol , NOx was very high but with 417000 kms I can see why :p
I can hook you up with a ---- one
pm me sir if you are interested

Good News, I managed to PASS the E-test legit way under Hot Rod. I printed all info on DE and VE I could find, printed Hot Rod Clause from Ministry of Environment manual, talked to a inspector at Ministry of Environment (which backed me up saying that those two 2L motors are not equal and it should be tested as hot rod), found a shop with reasonable people who understood it (located in Milton) and that was it. $36 later, I got my etest.
I will post my results some other time, but looking at them it would not pass under DE (NOx were almost 2000ppm).
Let me know if anyone needs any help I will tell you where to go.
Thanks everyone for alternative suggestions, I appreciate your help.
