: best 185/60 tires?
808se-r 09-16-2002, 03:52 AM currently on Falken Ziex(came on the car) tires, which absolutely suck ass on the strip(2.5-2.6 60ft) and is showing its age...
I occasionally drag, and don't got the funds for dedicated drag tires, so I need some recommendations for good tires like the Bridgestone 930's I recently borrowed and got (2.2-2.3 60ft), that are livable on the streets..
TeamNISSAN 09-16-2002, 04:38 AM Here in Europe we have a couple of REALLY good GTI tires!
Don't know if you can get the same models in USA!
Last year we did a test on 20 tires and the tires in top was
Bridgestone S-02 (S-03)
Falken FK-451
Continental ContiSportContact
Michelin Pilot Sport
Cheaper good tires
Bridgestone RE-720
Yokohama A-539
slipper 09-16-2002, 05:58 AM try see if they make kumho ecsta supras in that size. if you like one day i can show u a place where they got them for really cheap. i got my 205/40/17's from them for $89 each. or since you dont drive much, why dont u get some yokohama A032R's. I think the tread wear is 60 but since you dont drive much and since you seem to have a very deep pocket, why not?
paul p 09-16-2002, 10:40 AM Don't get much better that this --->http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Yokohama&tireModel=AVS+Intermediate&vehicleSearch=false&partnum=86VR4I
lance 09-16-2002, 11:17 AM Agreed- I have AVS Intermediates on mine and love them. I used to use 509s but can't get them anymore. Anyone know anything about the new Yoko AVS ES100? Seems to be the Intermediate's replacement. Tire Rack has the Intermediates on closeout for $42 each.

That is THE deal, eh Lance.
BTW 808, have you considered the 195/55-14 option. While my favorite, the Bridgestone RE-71 is no longer available you can still get the Dunlop 8000. A very good tire, not a great tire but there are advantages to the 195/55 size. Slightly wider/less sidewall for better handling & grip. The slightly lower total diameter makes for better acceleration. The performance differences between the NX and the Classic measured by the motoring press (at least up to 80mph) have everything to do w/ 185/60 all-seasons vs 195/55 summer.

235/45-17 Kumho 712. Needs struts, a chip and that's it.

MEclassic 09-16-2002, 11:56 AM If you consider other sizes, the Falken Azenis in 195/60-14 is a phenomenal tire. The tire is a bit wider and shorter than the typical 195/60, so the rolling diameter isn't too far off stock. $54 per tire shipped from tires.com, probably the best tire deal in the world. Azenis have basically become required equipment for a competitive STS autocrosser.

Benito Malito 09-16-2002, 12:12 PM Those yoko's from tirerack look nice, and cheap. I may order some. My classic has some yoko avid t-4's that are dying. OK tires, but cheapo.
I had kuhmo 712's on my 200sx, and they were a bit stiff in the side-wall. Good, and sticky, and cheap. They tended to induce wheel hop, more than reduce it. Unless I dropped the fronts to like 22 psi.
slipper 09-16-2002, 02:16 PM i think tire rack is out of the question because me and 808ser live in hawaii.
808se-r 09-16-2002, 02:24 PM alex - i don't think they make the ecsta supras in 185/60.. but i'll look
195/55 would have been an option, but I'm running B14 GXE/200SX SE alloys, and from the looks of it, these 185 falkens are the limit to how wide a tire should be on the rims, unless falkens are unusually wide..
lance 09-16-2002, 02:27 PM Doesn't Tire Rack ship to Hawaii?
808se-r 09-16-2002, 02:29 PM they do.. it came out to
168.00 for the tires and 54.92 for 2nd day shipping. would still need mount/balancing, but thats not bad..
lance 09-16-2002, 02:33 PM Not bad- I paid $62 each for my AVS Intermediates earlier in the year so you're still ahead of me.
