not sure if this should be asked here or technical so just let me know if its in the wrong place...i got to thinking earlier and if someones belt driven waterpump went out and they were interested in a electrical pump anyways, what would have to be done to get the conversion in? Ive heard its a PITA to get at the old one...sorry for the ignorant question.

The same amount of trouble IMO.

depends on how your water pump breaks, if it leaks then you would have to find another water pump and gut the internals or fabricate a block off plate. Then you can get a electric water pump froma company such as mezeire and run it inline with the radiator hose.

Everything comes in the kit to do it. You don't need a gutted waterpump.

well i think the AEBS kit is really expensive considering all you get is a block off plate with no idler pulley. A hundred bucks more for a piece of flat aluminum? not for me! Besides, i heard that running without a idler pulley, the belt will hit something... i dont know the details but search the forums. I spoke to Ben Ma from AEBS a couple days ago, the electric water pump itself could be had for approx $175, the entire kit for approx $300.

As far as I know, the blockoff plate has a pulley. I'm talking about the Meziere kit. $290

Remove the PS too and just run the alternator belt. remove the a/c and your good to go.

its not a mezeire kit, its an AEBS kit using a mezeire water pump. no it does not have an idler pulley. dont believe me, call AEBS 858-693-3200

I'm talking about the Mezieres kit, not the AEBS. And yes they do make a kit.

Its designed by AEBS. if you look at the honda kits, you will notice the idler pulley has the AEBS and Mezeire name. Same thing with the SR20 kit, look at the block off plate. If you saw the kit in the summit catalog, the pic is of the honda kit. Im positive the SR20 kit doesnt have a idler pulley, i spoke to Ben Ma, the guy who designed the kit a couple days ago.

I saw it somewheres else. When I find it, I'll post it.

Regardless, I agree with slipper. When I switch to an electric pump, I'm not spending $300 on the damn kit. I'll fab up a block off plate with a pully on it or put a gutted pump in and buy an electric water pump that'll flow the same rate as the one they stick it to you with in the kit for like $50 and be good to go. If the kit doesn't have a pully, which the one that summit sells doesn't, then your belt will hit your timing pin. Like sakerocket1 said, if you remove your PS then you won't have any problems. I'm going to have to figure something out, because I'm going to keep my A/C and PS when I do mine, so I'll have to put in a gutted pump or put a pully on the block off plate.

the reason i ask is im looking at a classic where he thinks the waterpump has gone bad and im going to need a new one or an electrical one. How far can a car with no pump be driven? hehe i need to get it back VA from baltimore MD....if i could do the work that would save me some money but if i cant then $$$$$

camppain - look up, i posted the #

blairellis - are you positive the pump is wasted? what makes you think the water pump is broken? If your positive, then i dont recommend you drive it at all.

That depends on how the old one failed. If it froze, the car is undrivable. If its just the seals are worn out, its drivable. If they're _really_ bad, you won't be able to drive it that far though. If they're not that bad, you just have to stop every so often and add water. Makes for a long trip, butcha only got to do it once. Oh, toss a couple of cans of leak stop in it first, that'll help it not leak as bad. I drove an old ford wagon this way for several hundred miles.

Mezeire's is $250 through SummitRacing.com. Mezeire would probably walk all over AEBS's cause frankly, that's all Mezeire does is produce water pumps. All my place of employment, free shameless plug....Aerospace Components, makes billet water pumps, and I was talking to the head designer who said that ours probably would outflow Mezeire's on a bench test, but they are the best pumps out there, if ours were to fail of course, haha.
