: Finally got my car back on the road..now boost problems
Andrew(nj) 11-17-2009, 10:26 AM Luckly I don't have a heavy foot and i pay attention to my boost gauge. It seems that the internal wastegate act. is not opening and allowing it to over boost, i can't control it with my boost controller. I have been running the same controller and vac. line setup since it was a stock t25 and it worked fine.
Is there a way to test the wastegate? Should I run a vac. line from the actuator to the intake mani and take the controller out of the question?

greddy type s boost controller
t bags 11-17-2009, 10:42 AM harbor freight sells a vac. gun just plug her in and watch the act. move..it even has a gauge http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/photos/92400-92499/92474.gif similar to this pic but it has more options

Lol I bought that a while ago and it was used and didn't work.. *** go buy a brand new one this time :biggthump
t bags 11-17-2009, 10:59 AM no need..if i could find mines in my basement u can use her..im on vacation this week so pm me if ur going to work on your car..im still waiting on a clutch shipment so i have time
Sr20Gtir 11-18-2009, 03:42 PM ok.... well as for the vacum gun.. that would be great if you were testing vacum. BUT your wastegate actuator runs off positive boost pressure to open. so you could just use an air compressor and shoot some compressed air into the wastegate line. Watch the actuator and if it moves its opening. yo could also just take the two lines running into the boost controller and join them together so the turbo will run gate pressure. if it still is overboosting you have a bad gate.

lol. yea i know about the vac. gun lol . but i did rig up a tester and it is the wastegate it would not hold pressure for shit. Seems like there is a big hole causing it to leak right out after pressure it applied to it..now i have to take the turbo back off :squint:
Andrew(nj) 11-22-2009, 12:51 PM This is how you test your internal wastegate actuator with a bicycle pump:o

t bags 11-22-2009, 03:46 PM looks like fun..the gun that I have operates both vac and pos pressure
its probably gonna need more vac if the boost has increased
Andrew(nj) 12-10-2009, 09:15 PM ok so i installed the new actuator..now when i first drive the car and hit boost, it would hit 15psi no problem.. after 2 pulls the car would only boost 11psi. whatever i set my boost controller it boosts slow as if the gain was turned all the way down and only 11psi..i checked for boost leaks none..can the actuator be getting to hot cause its to close to the mani? or can it be my boost controller?
se200 12-10-2009, 10:02 PM test it by removing the BC from the system ( just run the wastegate right off the boost source) do a few pulls like this cold and hot and if the boost stays the same every time then you know its not the gate and must be a the BC.
Andrew(nj) 12-14-2009, 06:02 PM ok update: i went to the dyno on saturday and borrowed my friends Manuel boost controller. on the dyno the car wouldn't go past 13psi no matter what adjustments i made. so that takes the b. controller out of the question. On the way home i decided to pull the act. wastegate line out to see if it would spike or hit more then 15psi. since i pulled the line the car would only boost 15.5 to 16.5 psi. so now i think i have to adjust the arm so it can close all the way.
BTw my car made 267hp at 240ish tq. my wideband says 10.8WOT @ 13psi i need to learn how to lean out my afc.

NIce numbers for running so rich and only at 13psi. The safc is so easy to learn to use. Lean that bad boy out and you'll be good to go.
jonwepa 12-22-2009, 09:05 AM Is that my old turbo???? It just sounds like you have a simple actuator problem....seal that flapper shut an go external!! run 20+ psi and hold on!:D
