It shouldnt be any more then a 4 hour job at a shop. Last year, when my boy chris (nismoser) first got his car, it needed a new clutch. So he took it to goodyear and with parts and labor and after all was said and done, it cost him about 700 dollars for everything. It was horrible. Now, we do our own clutches since we have gained knowledge in the ways of the sr20. :)

It is actually 6.1 hours according to the repair manual at mechanics shops. Plus the cost of machining the flywheel, oil, and the clutch itself.

Techinically its 6.1 hours but most good mechanics have been doing clutches for quite some time now and have a pattern down pat. The guy that did mine took 4 hours and charged me 400. Granted I didn't have anything he also was a friend of a guy that my dad new really well so he said sure and even installed a Stage 2 that his son was going to put in but we won't go into why his son didn't have it put it. If you have the clutch and all then 300 sounds quite expensive Hope this helps

I had a quote for putting one in the XE, and I think it was $400 at most for everything, parts included. I ended up doing it myself. So I'd think that since they're only providing labor and some tranny fluid, you shouldn't be more than $300 for labor.

It was 450 for labor on the clutch which i provided. They also charged 60 for the clutch cable that i neglected to buy, then they charged 70 to install the stupid thing. The rest was tax.

How about a clutch and a flywheel?

A normal shop would charge about 300 for labor, and then whatever you pay for the clutch.

As far as a flywheel goes, resurfacing the OEM costs around 10-15 bucks. Buying a performance one is around 300 isn't it?

what does a resurfacing do for it? If I want to still have a daily driver how light should I go on the flywheel?

At my shop, I usually charge $250 for a complete clutch install. This includes the labor to change the rear main seal, axle seals, clutch cable, and T/O bearing.

My machine shop charges an additional $18 plus tax to resurface the flywheel. As for gear oil, I either re-use what was in there or advise the customer to get 4 qts. of Redline MT90.

Or course, the cost for the cable, seals, oil, and resurfacing are in addition to my $250 labor.

By the way, how does one do a *complete* clutch job is 90 mins? It takes me 1:45 just to drop the tranny with hand tools and no lift.

I hope this helps,

Wow, if I could find someone to do that up here I wouldn't even bother getting my hands dirty. That's definitely worth my time! Alas, labor is scarce at that price here in Jersey.

I guess I'll keep the Gojo handy :D
