: Alternator failing?

I've been having a strange problem with my car and I think it may have to do with the alternator. It seems to charge fine if the electrical load is light. According to the techtom its at 14.0v when running and nothing is on. If I turn on the headlights, or fan, or defroster it idles like crap and runs rich enough to blow visible black smoke and leave carbon marks on the ground. The techtom reading goes crazy from 10-13 volts jumping around constantly. It has even started to do it when the cooling fan turns on. I replaced the battery with a new one and it didn't make a difference. Thanks

Wiring problem? Measure the voltage drop from the output of the alternator to the positive terminal of the battery under load.

I checked the voltage drop and it wasn't bad. I installed a newused alternator frm JGY and it still seems to have the same problem. One strange thing is that when I add electrical load that injector pulsewidth goes up from 2.2-24 normally to 4.5-4.9! Any ideas on that one?
