: NEED HELP! I have lost all of my top-end power!
Peanuthead 09-18-2002, 11:07 AM I have a JDM w/ I/H/E and my friend has a USDM w/ I/H/E and he walks away from me like I am in stock form in second and third. The drag strip proved this to us. Can anyone tell me what is going on?
I have a full tank of gas and good air pressure in the tires. The car didn't feel slow at the time. What could have happened since then? The car doesn't seem to be running in limp mode or anything. Should I take a risk and reset the ECU?
Thanks,
Sterling

Has your car been tuned up recently? Whats your timing at?
Peanuthead 09-18-2002, 12:25 PM My timing is at 26* according to multiple timing lights and my car had a tune-up about 15K-17K ago. If you set my timing to the 17* according to the pullies (stock) then my car falls flat on it's face. Thanks for the help so far.
SR20DEe 09-18-2002, 12:43 PM hmm.... after seeing those timing numbers..... have you done a compression check lately?
NismoNx2000 09-18-2002, 02:55 PM WHOA!!! Dude, 26 degrees for your timing....your engine should not even be in one piece. (u know what i mean) At the most, ive seen 20 and 21 degrees, but that should only be with 93 octane. 26 is crazy!!!! Definately check your compression and lower taht timing, i dont care how sluggish it is at 17, lower it!!! :( Do all the tuneup stuff to rule that out, reground your maf, check the voltage on your tps, clean your throttle body, check to see if your cat is clogged (big power robber, especially up top). Run some redline sl-1 fuel system cleaner. Definately check that cat though, i had an rx-7, and my power up top was horrible, then i took the cat off because the internals had completely broken apart and collapsed. It was a different car afterwards.
Peanuthead 09-18-2002, 04:21 PM The cat. is not the problem, I checked it about a month ago when I was doing some exhaust work. The timing at the "supposed" 17* I only got 108hp to the wheels so I don't think that it is truely at 17* when I set it there. What should the MAF read at? What wires do I need to use to reground it? Thanks again.

Here is the MAF link. It also looks like they might actually be updating the home page. OMG:eek:
FastNX 09-18-2002, 04:59 PM it could be that the timing chain jumped on the exhaust cam sprocket, that would contribute to shitty performance and the timing issue since the distributor runs off the exhast cam
SmoothDaddyFig 09-18-2002, 08:00 PM Hey , I see we share the same 1/4 mile numbers. :D
I would start with a fresh tune-up.
Those JDMs kick ass!!!

thats the jwt stability program with bigger cams...i didnt check his sig to see if he had cams or not but the bigger cams MUST have a HUGE advance
mpg9999 09-19-2002, 12:54 PM He's talking about ignition timing.

i know he is
you have to advance your timing a great deal with an ecu...even more with bigger cams
98sr20ve 09-19-2002, 09:43 PM He has stock cams.
Peanuthead 09-20-2002, 12:31 AM Well I thought I had the problem figured out but my car is just sucking wind now. It's better but not where it should be. I am going to go ahead and get a new set of plugs cap and rotor tomorrow and see what that does. I am also going to the track tomorrow so I will see what happens then too.
Worst case scenario I will take it to Rosen Auto and have them look at the cams timing and get it right.

change the cap along with the rotor not seperate you may end up having problems if you do so

dude. i was at 17* with i/h/e and got 136hp to the wheel. i bumped it up to 19* and use premium gas with NOS octane booster. i haven't dynoyed it since. i hope SERCA has another dyno day.
