Alright. A long time ago, when I was putting my bluebird motor together I was getting the same results and was told by a shop that what I was doing was incorrect. When I got my motor back from them, there was no slack left in the chain at all. There was no play in it if you rotated the crank by hand. This is a s13 redtop motor.

I followed the FSM completely putting this back together. The keyway on the crank faces 12, then gold link lines up with crank mark, up top cams 10 and 12 Silver links line up with cam marks.

I install the tensioner, and rotate Counter clockwise until it releases. The pictures will show what my results are, these results are the same thing I had way back in the day when a shop told me I was doing it wrong but I just have no idea what I am doing wrong.

Is this slack normal. Pics one and two show what the chain looks like at its worst, the tensioner is released. Pic 3 shows what the chain looks like at its "best"

Both of these videos are NOT MINE. But it looks like I have the exact same results as they do. I would like to know if this is normal.

install tensioner and rotate crank clockwise, not counter clockwise.

The s14 FSM states, If the chain tensioner doesnt unhook on its own, rotate counter clockwise. Even so, I did the installation twice roating once ccw, and another cw. Had the same results. Anybody else, Id like to know if that slack is normal by tomorrow, would like to get this thing in and running asap.
