: Need some input...ODBII or convert down to ODBI
enohand 01-08-2010, 09:40 AM Ok i have a 96 g20.
i will be running
S15 BB T28
Brian Crower Stg2 cams,
Nismo 555CC
N60 maf
i have been in talks with calum about the ODBII ecu's & really Really want a V2, but i guess there are still some issues to iron out.
Right now i dont pass emissions the NOrmal way ( i have a guy that puts me through) due to my JGY flywheel, & it being the wrong tooth count & them swearing up & down thats not the problem (i have personally counted the teeth & it is the incorrect number) any how it works great & i love it.
So my whole issue im having now is......do i wait for Calum & the tunercode guys to finish up the Rt V2 boards? or do i run a step down harness & run a RT b13/ODBI ecu?
I know that the older ECU doesn't look to the sensor in the trans, so i wont get a light for that.....
as i said i currently dont pass inspection anyway...but do get my inspection sitckers....
so anyone have any pros/ cons of stepping down to a ODBI ECU? or any reasons to stay with the b14/ODBII ecu??
eric96ser 01-08-2010, 09:59 AM Does your county test OBD2, or just the tail pipe emissions? If you put an OBD1 ECU in your car, you will never pass emissions if they check for OBD2 signals. I would swap the flywheel with one that is known to work and wait for the V2 ECU.
enohand 01-08-2010, 10:59 AM yeah all they do is plug in the ODB II port....
im not swapimg the Fw, so thats out of the "?". Like i said, i have a guy who passes me, so if i down convert, it woulnt matter that they wount get any readings from the ODBII port...
but right now id much rather NOt have a MIL light for a issue thats NOT a issue...lol....
but thats also the reason id like to wait for the new b14 V2's cause the guy from tunercode said it should be possible to mask MIL codes

Naturally I'd like for anyone to be able to mask off CEL codes, so I'm working towards that end, and will keep everyone posted on the results asap.
That being said, there are other considerations for switching to the B13 ECU and using an adapter harness. The main one is probably the method of tuning with the fuel map, which is pretty well understood in the B13, but still under development in the B14 ECU. Another goal Calum and I have for the B14 is to convert it to the B13 method, but that is still under evaluation.

So what happens if you switch to the OBD1, and your guy no longer works there? I would rather fix the issue, than mask it.
enohand 01-08-2010, 01:10 PM well i have talked to a few different people, & they have said that they would try to use the plug, but if it wouldnt work then they would put me on a roller/sniff test,....which i would pass
Cliff 01-10-2010, 07:26 PM If they scan the VIN, the system will not allow them to do a 2 speed idle/roller test. The VIN will report that it's an OBDII vehicle.
enohand 01-13-2010, 09:05 PM thats the thing i know a guy who owns a place...other than that thats the only reason i dont want to down convert is that reason..(in case my guy isnt avialanymore)
enohand 01-17-2010, 12:26 PM bump
Cliff 02-16-2010, 03:14 PM Bump for what? Bottom line: OBD1 ECU in an OBD2 car is an automatic fail.
enohand 02-16-2010, 04:09 PM shit~ bumped the wrong thread....my bad
