: pistons hitting plugs?
2.2lvvlb13 01-08-2010, 09:52 PM i have a problem in my 2.0 ve. im using ngk bkr7e plugs and my #1,2,3 plugs gets smashed every now and then. its so bad that there is no gap causing the car to run really rich and buck, pop, and all sort of weird things.
i recently changed the headgasket to a cometic mls one. do u guys know if its just the wrong plugs? the car will run like a charm if i dont pull the plugs too tight but eventually they come loose. is there some other plugs that dosent go deep as the bkr7e? i remember using the thin headgasket also.
iamhappy46 01-10-2010, 02:11 AM BKR6EIX-11 and I never had a problem
It is odd that its causing spark plug gap to close up though unless you machined the cylinder head a LOT
2.2lvvlb13 01-10-2010, 04:24 AM there was no machining done that i know of. i bought the head from someone who had just pulled it form a fresh ve also. its a 1.6ve head on a 2.0 ve block with 2.0 cams.
Yellow4g63 01-14-2010, 02:32 AM Are you missing the screw from the throttle body?
2.2lvvlb13 01-14-2010, 02:58 AM i missing one...but that was the reason for the first head change. i now only have one screw but its lock tighted good.
morgans432 01-14-2010, 03:05 AM you have something way wrong if your hitting your spark plugs. Like time to take the head off wrong
iamhappy46 01-14-2010, 04:23 AM I had 12+:1 compression on my 22VE bottome end and it never contacted the pistons.
shuttersboy 01-14-2010, 07:03 AM Could this be causing any problem?
Are you missing the screw from the throttle body?
morgans432 01-14-2010, 12:13 PM yeah could get stuck in a valve it will destroy a top end in no time.
iamhappy46 01-15-2010, 05:41 AM Since he stated that he has changed the head and the screw(if only one of them) is locktited in, I doubt a loose screw is the problem.
5speed 01-15-2010, 08:57 PM First of all, it's impossible for the stock 20VE piston to come in contact with the sparkplugs. Something is loose or a foreign object is inside your engine.
I find it odd that you are driving around with only one throttle plate screw attached. That one screw will get stress more from a wot application and will eventually come loose, not to mention you are probrably getting a real high idle, since that one hole is bypassing the throtte plate.
2.2lvvlb13 01-15-2010, 09:09 PM the idle is high sometimes but thats always been like that, even with the 2 screws in place. i dont see what could be loose. i fished all the cylinders with a magnetic pole for foreigh objects but nothing came out. i would also like to add , this engine has been boosted 8psi for the past 200miles.
iamhappy46 01-16-2010, 06:03 AM ^^ That info would have been important earlier.
Its detonation closing up the gaps ;)

Exactly, telling us it's a turbo is important. I would also say it's detonation.
javcrodgz 01-19-2010, 07:25 PM isn't it possible that the cam gear skipped a tooth??
2.2lvvlb13 01-19-2010, 07:46 PM so lets say its detonation... i have a calum computer programmed for 370cc injectors and n60 maf. at 3bar. i run 8psi on a t25. should it be detonating that bad? how can i prevent it?
chriscar 01-19-2010, 07:50 PM How about some pictures? And use the macro function on your camera so the spark plug tip is in focus.

2.2lvvlb13 01-19-2010, 07:50 PM can i install a meth kit to prevent this?

i dont have pics rite now because i usually open the gap and gap it back to 28 and install it again. next time it happens ill take pics and post them up.

Its a damaged spark plug, not a valve ;)
Piston only travels a fixed distance up the bore, it would damage the combustion chamber if hit the plug ;)
