It seems my p11 tranny as developed a grind when going into second, im assuming its the synchros going Iv noticed the grind is worse when going faster and worse when shifting down from third than it is from 1st to 2nd. Im going to pull the plug 2 morro to search for metal but was wondering about the tranny fluid.
Anybody used a transmission rebuild kit like the one autozone sells?

There's a drain plug and a fill plug. The higher plug is the fill plug, you pour gear oil in there until it pours out hole.

thats what I thought last time I filled it by pulling the speedo sensor and pouring it in through there.

you need to pull the tranny out and pull the cover off and look at the syncros for 2nd and look for wear on the teeth of the gears.

i will do. im also buying another tranny to replace it for now but im going to pull it out and see how it looks, noticed that my clutch feels like it slipping so mabe the clutch is the issue. If the tranny isn't to bad *** replace the gears with a gq18

clutch slipping shouldn't cause a grind...your 2nd synchros are giving out...replace synchros or tranny it self... going from 3rd n back to 2nd cause a harder grind than 1st to 2nd cause your increasing engine speed with the downshift higher speed will cause a harder grind...synchro teeth are rounding out n not sharp anymore so they are not engaging properly...

For reference, did you have a new or used p11, LSD or not, and about what mileage are you at when the grind started?
Also what oil are you using and are you using additives?

thanks Mrtone for clearing that up for me, I was going back and forth trying to decide if the clutch would cause the grind, I have had the clutch slip on me before and it didn't grind. I will just pick up a new tranny then thanks.
unijabnx2000 the tranny was used with around 70k miles on it, very low mileage, I haven't pulled it yet but assuming its non-lsd, It had lucas to start but I just recently added penzzoil syncromesh(I hope that wasn't the problem, I will be going back to the lucas oil that was in it, it was a lot thicker oil and I liked it much better and no on the additives, got any advice one what I should use for oil and additives...whats good for our trannys?

i never like additive for my point of view n yes mixing different oil will and can cause damage to the gears...never mix oils...i would recommend go to your local nissan dealership n purchase 3qt of manual transmission fluid...for some reason the sr20 manual trans take about 3qt...

Yeah I put 3 quarts in it and it wasn't even near full. And I think me mixing the oil is what caused it, I just recently added the pennzoil *** it was low. Next time I will drain and start from scratch. The dealership oil is really that good?
