I've recently been cleaning off the engine and tranny in my 200SX, but have some junk on there I can't get off. I'm using the Gunk brand cleaner and detailer with the blue disposable shop towels, but there is still some that I just can't get with just my fingers. What kind of brushes are safe to use on the engine block, head, and tranny casing? I don't want to scratch anything up.
So far things are looking pretty good. I might post some pics of what I've done once I'm satisfied with the finished product.

dono200sx,
I followed the instructions on SE-R.net written by Shell Black. You can check out that article HERE (http://www.se-r.net/car_info/clean/detail_engine.html). I focused mainly on the side of my engine and the tranny. Here was the result of when I cleaned the "front" of the engine:

Engine currently has 198,500 on her. The "front" of the engine WAS caked with a nasty, caky oily substance. Of course If you have any leaks in your engine and you go detailing it, it won't do much good because it'll make a mess all over again. I went thru 2 cans of Foamy Engine Brite and used toothbrushes and larger hand brushes. Good luck to ya!

I've been using his instructions also. It has been very informative. I just couldn't tell what kind of bristles are safe for the engine and tranny. Should I stay away from the brass looking bristles?

I don't know that you should or shouldn't use that type of brush, but I didn't. Honestly a toothbrush came in most handy to get all the hard to reach places

I'll give the toothbrush a try. Once it stops raining here in Dallas. Thanks for the help man!
