nxgoody2000 09-19-2002, 02:17 AM hey guys, i know this is a newbie question, but what is a AIV, i noticed it on a hotshot header installation. i know we have the egr tube and the o2 sensor, but i never figure out what the AIV sensor does, and does it come stock in our sr20s. or is it a extra part you have to put in, when you install a header? does it come on newer sr20s from 94 and up. because i have a 91 nx2000, and i do not see the AIV sensor on my motor. any info would help. thanks silversx 09-19-2002, 01:28 PM The AIV system is on 91-94 SR20DE powered cars. It stands for Air Injection Valve, and it injects air into the exhaust stream at idle to keep the catylitic converter working. It has been said that later model SR20DE powered cars eliminated the need for this AIV system by leaning out a bit at idle. Someone correct me if i'm wrong please.. mpg9999 09-19-2002, 01:42 PM Your pretty much right, except I believe they corrected the problem (which was port wall wetting (resulting in poor emisions) by placing the injectors closer to the intake valve and increasing the intake velocity at low rpm's.
