: can someone indentify this problem?

i was driving around the city last night and out of nowhere, i notice that the resistance on my clutch was reduced by about a half. it's strange because i never heard any noises or felt anying break or snap throughout the day. when i disengage the clutch, it sometimes vibrates about halfway down. sometimes the resitance feels normal, and other times it feels very light. the vibration only occurs when the resistance is light and mostly when the clutch pedal is halfway down. the clutch seems to engage properly, but i don't understand why the light pressure and the vibration. if someone can help me figure this out before i dump for a new clutch, i'd greatly appreciate it!

Well, one thing to check would be the clutch arm thing. It's where the clutch cable attaches to the transmission basically. It's been known to break.

if the clutch arm is broken, i wouldn't be able to drive the car, would i?

Well, it might be time for a new clutch cable. YOu might want to see if anything is blocking the cable that would cause resistance, namely something under the hood. If there is a grinding sound, then it sounds like an internal problem, possibly involving the throwout bearing. Or it might have something to do with the tranny input shaft. It could be a few things. how often does it make the noise/resistance and is it ever hard to shift??

it's actually a lack of resistance when i press the clutch pedal down, and the pedal vibrates about halfway down. the clutch pedal is about 6-8 months old. it was already dark out and i was in the city so i didn't get a chance to check the blockage on my clutch cable. there is currently no grinding sound, and it is not hard to shift at all. he clutch pretty much functions normally, except for the light pedal pressure and vibration. this happens on just about every shift.

ok, not that anyone may care, but after checking around the engine compartment last night, i realize that NismoNX2000 is probably right. my clutch cable came out of the metal guide by the firewall and is hanging kinda loosely there. i tried putting it back in, but it won't stay. i also think i need to lubricate the cable so that it can travel more freely. thanks NismoNX2000...and sorry for doubting your diagnosis. i'm just relieved that i may not need to change the entire clutch afterall.

No problem dude, glad i could help, and im also glad to hear that its an easy fix. Its always a good thing when you dont have to take the tranny off. Hope you can get that cable to stay. It should pop into place if the mental pic i have is what you described. Put some force behind it so it pops in there and stays. Good luck!!

its not your clutch arm because if it cracked it would go to the floor and not come back up, it sounds like your cable. id replace that and if problem persists check your pp
