Hey guys,
what do you think is a good turbo cam upgrade. I just wanna put cams in right now so no adjustable gears, springs or retainers.
let me know what you guy think or have used! any info is greatly appreciated.
Oh and just to clarify. If I get cam they must be GTIR engine only right?
thanks

GTI-R cams are specific to GTI-R's, they are solid actuation with SHIM adjustment, as well as having the distributor hanging off the end of the exhaust cam.
Other SR20's are hydraulic actuation and never the two shall interchange.
Just leave the standard (248degree) cams in, until you are ready to upgrade, otherwise you will be re-shimming the head each time you change the cams and getting hold of the correct adjustment shims is a real PITA.
Upgrade -
Tomei Procam 260degree 11 or 12mm lift, PLUS springs, retainers and SHIMS and vernier gears.
Tomei Procam 270degree 12mm lift, PLUS springs, retainers and SHIMS and vernier gears.
HKS 264degree 10.5 and 11 mm lift, PLUS springs, retainers and SHIMS and vernier gears.
Brian Crower 260degree unknown lift, PLUS springs, retainers and SHIMS and vernier gears.
There are others but the above gives you some idea of what is available.
there is a member on here with a red gtir,he has a 53J cam for his intake cam

They do work but the ramp on the lobe is all wrong. It is long and fat whereas the ramp on the GTI-R cam is straighter and sharper.
The GTI-R cam allows for two definite actions on the valve, open and closed.
The long fat lobe allows the valve to open earlier (gradually, not sharp) and close later (gradually not sharp).
This gradual open and closure allows fuel to leak early and exhaust gas to blow back.
If the member is running a 54C exhaust cam and a 53J intake cam then there must be some wild effects on the dwell angle of the cams.
It would probably work, but the efficiency of it is just wrong and I would be suprised there hasn't been detonation issues.
Also, camshafts designed specifically for solid actuation (GTI-R 54C) and hydraulic actuation (53J) are ground differently, ie straight and sharp, long and fat.
