: Rom Editor Program
JRios 09-20-2002, 12:39 PM I was just wondering if anybody was able to download this program through www.925style.com/editor_direct.html ? I was not able. It is supposedly a zip file, but when I'm going to open the program using winzip it gives me an error.
WhiteSER 09-20-2002, 01:25 PM Worked for me. Just used XP's unzipper.
93BlackBird 09-20-2002, 04:11 PM Don't show anyone at Techtom this. If I am not mistaken this is there $1800 mapping software..lol No you jsut need the box to burn the eeprom and say good bye to JWT..lol
Toolapcfan 09-20-2002, 04:32 PM Funny thing is, building that box to burn eproms is not very difficult nor expensive. This sort of thing has been avaliable to GM guys for a long time now. I'll ask my brother in law about it and see what I can find about building the prom burner.

I bet it is done sooner than you think.

99SE-L 09-22-2002, 03:50 PM but they only have it for the DET

JCGator42 09-23-2002, 12:44 AM Sup yall.....can anyone give me more information about our car's eeprom? the size and model number would be a good start. a picture of one front and back would be even better. And if someone can get the pin-out charts or the reference manual for it that would be best. I am a computer and electrical engineer at the Univ. of Florida and I have access to ROM burning equipment, plus I am sure the guys at the Automotive Society would be glad to help. I can gain access to the equipment, but I would have to see if our ROM would work with the different machines at the labs,

skyliner 09-23-2002, 02:52 PM Are the Proms on our ECU swapable? I thought they were soldered in? It might be an opition for the guys that are already JWT, or we might end up being brave and soldering our own daughter boards in. I was trying to mess around with the program but can't really do anything, I guess you need a prom hooked up to it to even put in values?
JCGator42 09-23-2002, 03:44 PM well, it aint that hard to desolder it and then solder it back on again. but yeah, we can also get a daughterboard and solder that in in place of the eeprom,

93BlackBird 09-23-2002, 03:46 PM buying a rom board from Techtom is all you need and some decent soldering skills. the holes are already there for the board to be soldered. Its jsut a matter of doing the soldering.
As far as replacing the eprom directly on the board its been done. Problem with your question JC is that nissan uses differant chips. Keep in mind I am not a computer science/computer eng. major, but you also have to change things about how the chip communicates. Also a removable eeprom holder has been put on the main board as well. I would though think that maybe it would be easier to just buy the board from Techtom. It would cut you engineering and PITA issues in half. All that would really be left to really make something special would be the ability to read the factory setting in real time and no what to change. Or you could just a get a JWT chip and read it using the EEPROM editior and compare it with a factory map.

It might not be for someone that is used to doing that type of thing, but can't you fry the chip if you get it too hot when your soldering it. Don't you have to attach a heat sink to the chip or whatever? Anyways I might attempt it if I had a spare ecu or something.

JCGator42 09-23-2002, 04:23 PM well, I have soldered microprocessors and tons of chips, and I guess I've gotten pretty decent at it. It really isn't that hard. There are different kinds of soldering guns, at the labs they have ones particular for electronic board use which won't mess things up even if your skills are not the best. but if you buy one of those at Radio Shack you have to use them in the low setting unless you are really good at soldering and can just tip and tap solder quickly,

JCGator42 09-23-2002, 04:25 PM Also, I know the eproms will differ from year to year, I guess the best thing would be the Techtom board? anyone have a price or contact info for that? If someone can direct me to the schematics of the chips I am sure I could make a board to program them in, I can get all the different sockets for cheap, and a board for free from the labs,

93BlackBird 09-23-2002, 04:43 PM when companies make products where the eeprom can be reprogrammed they use a sort of docking station this can be soldered as it has been done before on a Nissan ecu you jsut have to reprogram input/output settings on the eeprom. No heatsinks are used on these ecu's and most ecu's are built b machine. I think the safest way would be a docking station or a rom boards. Soldering and desoldering that board will ultimatly ruin it rather quickly. There are so many damn circuits that companies actually use special machines to trace/draw these circuits for diagrams. A pinout sheet will hardley be helpful unless you really have nothing to do all day and enjoying tracing little copper lines on a breadboard..lol
JCGator42 09-23-2002, 04:46 PM HAHAHHAHAHA, lol,
