: JGY clutch?
trbob13 02-08-2010, 01:58 AM im shopping for clutches and dont have a whole lot of money to spend. i saw the JGY-STREET-se-r Sprung 6 puck disk. is this clutch any good? ive only ever bought spec and act. im looking for something that doesnt kill my leg in traffic as this is my daily. any input would be greatly appreciated.
Nitelife 02-08-2010, 11:59 AM I think they are just a comp or spec brand clutch repainted and labeled as JGY.
I have the street clutch in my daily and it initially gave my leg a work out honestly. It can be a PITA in stop-and-go traffic, and it can moan like a b*tch at times.
Really good holding power though (is kind of overkill for my lightly modded NA car).
curlz 02-08-2010, 12:39 PM I had this same clutch in my 96 se-r and it held pretty good. BUT it is does put your leg to work during traffic.

enohand 02-09-2010, 09:02 AM i have only like 160 whp....& i had thier street disc....within 2-3 weeks i( 1 autox) event i blew it to pieces....all the friction matl blew/fell off the actual clutch.....worst money i ever spent, EVER!!! JGY sux.....i tried telling them about it & they gave me the run around, same way when i spoke to like 3 people there & tried confirming thier leightweight FW wouldnt throw a CEL in my car, i installed it & BOoom light on, tried telling them it did & they said i installed it wrong & they couldnt take it back because i already installed it.....
worst customer service !!
morgans432 02-09-2010, 09:32 AM i love my clutch master the way they design it makes the clutch feel so nice no stress pushing the clutch in. I would recommend them to anyone. Also get the unsprung (i know it might be a tougher pedeal) but its better than popping the damn springs out of the clutch.
Last weekend I saw a jgy clutch fall apart on a stock de. Springs got all messed up and popped out and this clutch was pretty damn close to being new. Chunks missing out of it and everything its ashame that they are so crap and people keep buying them.
MercerSX 02-09-2010, 02:21 PM I am using the jgy 6 puck sprung. pedal feel is kinda harsh after a while. have been through 3 cables so far and hardly ever drive the car. Does grab good but wouldnt buy another one. might try ACT next?
92wcr 02-09-2010, 02:50 PM i actually love my jgy 6 puck clutch ive had it over a year.had it in my Na for about 4 months..then went turbo and it still grips ...and its not hard in traffic doesnt cramp my leg or anything..my stock clutch on my old 87 ford gt was harsh..that thing was hard...
but i say go for the jgy ..i havent gone through no clutch cables yet... good clutch in my opinion
Redline SER 02-09-2010, 02:57 PM I got a ACT 6puck HD Pressure plate with sprung disc and that shit kick hard. Just check your back motor mount often.
unijabnx2000 02-09-2010, 06:40 PM I love my south bend clutch
trbob13 02-10-2010, 12:56 PM i think im gonna go with competition clutch. ive only heard good stuff about em and the price is reasonable for the amount of power that it holds
B14SR 03-06-2010, 09:36 PM after about 5k miles on the stock sr20 the clutch looked fine and we put it on the gti-r when we did the swap. after less than 1000 miles on the gti-r running 8-16lbs of boost there isnt much left of the clutch. two of the 6 springs are gone, found pieces of them in the bell housing, the pressure plate is pretty scorched, and the jgy 11lbs flywheel is all kinds of colors of the rainbow.
the pedal was pretty stiff, broke one clutch cable myself, but i kinda liked it on the gti-r motor. clamped hard and consistently though.
i think i am going to try spec next.
skcusloa 03-06-2010, 10:05 PM ACT FOR THE WIN!
Anything that isn't rated by torque is crap. Stage 3? wtf is stage 3? are we playing mario bros?

x2 on clutchmaster. My stage 1 unsprung disc holds everything I throw at it.
