Any one ever try to fix this. Cutting out old metal and adding new? Input
Ugh sorry I did a search and after looking through a couple pages of the search I found a post buried. It looks like cutting and adding is the way to go... sorry for the added post but I'm sure ppl will use this as a reference since it is a common problem

Are you doing this work yourself? This type of work can get very expensive. Just to fix both rear quarters on my B14 was going to be almost $700 that includes the paint and body work. Price would vary from shop to shop though.

in my line of work (computer repair) I have met several very good mechanics (welder fabricators) and as long as i give them the time I can get a good deal i think. I always have my fzr600 to ride around for work anyway :P

I am going to be fixing a friends 4 door that has rusting between the front and rear door pillars near the base. I am going to have to remove the rear door and then cut the metal out. I am going to Rivet the new metal in and grind the metal in smooth. then bond coat to smooth it out. The good thing on this 4 door is that the kick panels are still good, no rot. I have always waxed my jams and never had an issue on my 92. I just had the rockers rot in the rear a bit, but I cut and replaced them. The one thing is to paint the inside of the metal really good before placing the patches. they sell weld through primer also if you are welding in the patches.
I do think I may get a welder soon, it seems more and more, people bring me their cars to fix up!

If you just plan on doing a temporary about to sell it fix i would rivet in if not i wouldnt go that route , buy a cheap flux core welder and do it properly so it doesnt have to be done twice :D
