Can anyone tell me how to identify between the auto and manual SR20VE engines? The one I have here doesnt have a transmission attached to it. Thanks if you can.

All sr20ve's came auto. The sr16 and sr20ve 20v came with manual. I think im right lol.

I thought u meant by what year the motor was made. Like mine was born on june 1997.
Because Ive heard that the earlier produce ve motors are better than the later made motors. I dunno, I hope someone can enlighten me about this.

The head castings on the earlier motors was much better than the 98+ motors. It allowed for better flow for both intake and exhaust passages as the later motors had problems with the shifting of the casting process and excessive flashing of the material when cast. Lower flow numbers meant lower HP readings.

The water outlet pipe on the head should have the month/year cast into it assuming it hasn't been replaced.

mine say 7/97 is that the good motor

just checked mine 97/6 or 97/8 can't tell for sure. But I'll have to say it runs good :D

it sound like we got all the same years almost and we r in different parts of the world. Could that mean something else

97/6...but i was told my motor came out of a 2001 primera...is that common for them to be produce so long before they are actually put into a car?

So the consensus is most of the cylinder head outlet water pipe was produce in 97.

What about the engine itself?
