I got 2 problems. One is I just installed HIDs on my b14 and now the dash lights are dimmer and my high bean light is half illuminated. Second when I got the car when you hit the high beams the dash lights would go out. I ve check all the fuses and I am sure there a short somewhere or something. Idk if anyone else has had issues like this but any useful input would be greatly appreciated. I have search a little bit and everyones issue is a little different. All my other lights work without a problem.

I would recheck the wiring you did since you installed new headlights.

Well I went over everything and realized it was set on 9007 not 9004 because they are almost the same and fix the first problem. It's day out so I can't see the dash lights. I still don't know about the dash lights turning off when high beams are on. It was like that when I bought the car. That's the prolonged issue I had.

my car does that sometimes, just play around with the dimmer. Also try to take the dimmer switch out and clean it up a bit. Worked for me.

honestly I don't know if mine even has a dimmer switch. I've look for it . I am might be blind which could be Ive not seen one. I just check my lights when I got home and they haven't changed. I still got all the same problems as before. I went over the wiring and the install guide and it is installed right. I bought the kit form Wolf_SER which I know its not a bad kit. He tested it for me before sending it out and everything. IDK....

...Second when I got the car when you hit the high beams the dash lights would go out....
Im having the exact same problem. If your dash lights go out, most likely your tail lights will be going out too. Do your tail lights go out when you turn your high beams on?
Do you have an aftermarket head unit?
Whomever owned my car before me, shorted out the illumination wire behind the head unit. Then hacked in some wiring to "fix" it... Now I am rebuilding my wire harness.

You may have a similar issue....

Does your aftermarket radio dim when you turn on your headlights?
Did you install it?

No it doesn't. The only thing that goes off is the dash lights and the lights on the climate control. I installed the ratio but even before that it still did it with the old radio installed

No it doesn't.
This means the illumination is not hooked up, incorrectly hooked up, or inoperative.
The only thing that goes off is the dash lights and the lights on the climate control.
This is the illumination circuit. I know on B13s & many other cars, this is the same circuit connected to your tail lamps (not brake lamps). If the tail lamps work but your dash lights go out when you switch on your high beams, the circuit has been isolated. That means a wire has been cut, disconnected, or shorted.
Do you have a MultiMeter?
I installed the ratio but even before that it still did it with the old radio installed
Was the "Old Radio" the Factory radio or aftermarket?

I think the B14 is wired very similar to the B13....It has a big wire connection box in the drivers left footwell, behind the fuse box. its called the SMJ ( super multiple junction). All my dash wires go through that box. Look at that too, thats where I noticed my bad wire.
Look behind your radio for that illumination wire. See if its damaged.

I ripped my cluster out and traced some wires and the person that rewired stuff really rigged it. I need a FSM for a b14. If anyones got one.

So I had a local guy come out and me and him figured out that the dimmer switch was bad and The wires that were by passed the dimmer we reconnected to the original wires and now it all works. There is are wire under the steering column was cut and we reconnected it and it works now.
