Hello i'm new to the boards. I have a 1997 nissan hardbody. I'm looking to do a SR20DET swap in it and have a few questions.

Should i go with black top or red top?

From what i know it's plug and play is that correct?

Will i be able to run a/c and p/s with this swap?

What are some easy power adders and where can i get them from...intercooler,manifolds, downpipes, wastegates etc...

Where's a good legit place to purchase a swap from?

Sorry for all the questions but *** n00b

I used to have a 94 hardbody. I always wanted to drop a VG30DETT in it.

As far as a sr20det swap, buy an engine that comes with as much as possible. Ecu, maf, etc.. That way all you will have to really contend with is engine mounts, shifter linkage, and MAYBE a custom driveshaft(ouch).
As far as parts, just start searching for engine specific parts for upgrades. But a swap like this is probably going to involve a deal of fabricating. As far as the red or black top, I believe the redtops are little older engine than the black. Or maybe the black is VE? I'm sure someone will correct me if that's not right. ;)

Good luck!

red tops are 91-94 180sx and silvia
black tops are 95-98 180sx (with flat/rectangle valve cover)
black tops are 94-01 s14 s15 silvia (with hump in front and rear in valve cover)
s14/s15 black tops have the vvl
thats what i know off the top of my head
someone correct me if im wrong

^ it would be easier to use a rwd block, not a fwd block.

True. What I'm not sure of is if the s13,14 have a ball joint type shift linkage. If I remember right, my hardbody had rods. Don't know if that changed in later models or not. Also depends on difference in tranny length as to how much of a problem that would pose too, as well as crossmembers.

he is looking to swap a sr20 into his hardbody (RWD) truck. You are looking to swap a sr20 in you se-r (fwd) car. Now im not saying that it is impossible but it would just be easier to use the correct sr20 for the task at hand.

I would just get a ka24de and boost that less painful and just as reliable its all in the tune trust me.
