: good turbo?
Taintid62 09-22-2002, 02:39 AM what's a good turbo that'll give me an edge and be tuner friendly? I was thinking something small like a mitsubishi td05 or a t28 or t25 garret. Also what else would i need to get other than the basics, like internals and such. Oh it will be going on a stock sr20de from a 97 se-r?
spdracerUT 09-22-2002, 11:23 AM uh, you're going to have to be more specific than that. How much power do you want? How much do you want to spend? What kind of drivability do you want? If you want a lot of power, slap on a GT3037 (like $1600+ for just the turbo).

Taintid62 09-22-2002, 01:29 PM something that will put me in the 200-205 whp range that is fast spooling and not insanely expensive.
FastNX 09-22-2002, 01:46 PM if all you want is 200whp a T25 will get you there and it is very fast spooling. But once you get a T25 you will want more and unless you run race gas, a T25 is fairly limited. I'd say go for a T28 setup it can easily flow 250hp but will only make 200whp at stock boost, plus they are fairly easy to come by.
Taintid62 09-22-2002, 01:53 PM what if i did the avnir turbo setup? could i go to a larger turbo like the t28 later on if i wanted to? or would that hit the block itself and have to switch to a gti-r manifold, for some reason i have a feeling i'm answering myself. i've done the whole search option and there is a lot on this topic i've only gotten thru 3 pages of who knows how many. all your help is greatly appreciated.
FastNX 09-22-2002, 02:10 PM the avenir 'setup' im guesing is just the manifold the way you're saying it, the gtir turbo will hit the block with the avenir manifold, but just get a gtir turbo and manifold, it's like 50 bucks more and the manifold is much thicker and possibly better flowing, if i were you id stick with the gtir setup.
Taintid62 09-22-2002, 03:10 PM yeah i'm now thinking about the gti-r setup (t28 and manifold) it would give me more of the range i want. i also want to do cams with it like s3's or hks 264's, would i have to eliminate teh a/c unit to install the turbo? driving in arizona with no a/c kinda sucks. the 50# injectors and the cobra or the ztt maf is what i'll look for and a fuel rail to hold my injectors as well. does anyone know of a company that does a kit turbo, manifold, all the piping, ic, hoses and such? i'm still searching thru all the threads and i'm just coming by more of the same things i am asking and the replies to them are helping a little more. thanks again for your patience for this newbie and his silly questions.
98SERwTricks 09-22-2002, 03:34 PM I wanted to do the T28 GTi-R setup for 225-250 hp, and Andreas suggested a T3 with F-max style manifold for installation ease... T3 is good for about 280 with the setup he suggested...

Taintid62 09-25-2002, 09:50 AM from what i have been reading any turbo install will be slightly difficult and if it isn't then the tuning will be. i know it has to be done in steps to get it done, rushing in and doing it all at once can lead to problems. but i don't konw much on this subject so i've been just searching thru the threads and gathering all i can peice by peice.
SR20RACER 09-26-2002, 09:51 PM I am getting the newer style BB setup from JGY just for the price and the fast spool up. I would assume with my cams and pullies I will get 210-215WHP.
Turbo/injectors/manifold/oil and water lines/=$900
HS (HKS) front mount intercooler BOV & filter=$945
Gauge pod and gauges=$350
misc crap=$100
BB ECU=$175
Downpipe=$175
Take your time and do more research. I was going to do the T28, but I am sticking with the T25 for now. If I like being turbo (and I think I will) eventually I will get a T3/T4 and go real fast. Good Luck!!!
PS: and no you don't have to eliminate the A/C
Taintid62 09-27-2002, 01:12 AM i don't want to go real real fast (i havea heavy foot that gets me in trouble) but i do want to have an edge over an 88 crx with a b20 swap with full bolt ons. so both the t28 and t25 have their pros and i can't really find any cons. only thing is price and difficulty installing it.
spdracerUT 09-27-2002, 02:48 AM I think one of the main probs(not too big of a deal really) with the GTi-R manifold and t28 is that you can't use the stock fans. You have to get slim ones or something; otherwise, the turbo/manifold will hit them.

Not true, Khiem. At least on my B13 it wasn't:

It's close. *Real* close. But some trimming with a Dremel does wonders for the stock fans with a GTi-R T28 setup.

Did you dremel the fan shroud or the turbo?
spdracerUT 09-27-2002, 01:53 PM The fan shroud. Don't want to dremel the turbo! Plus, plastic is a lot easier to remove than metal :) I'll have to go look at my t25 with the B14 and see how much clearance I have.

sonnypippo 09-27-2002, 01:57 PM what about the gti-r manifold with a T28... how's it fit?

Yeah what about the GTIR setup on a b14? I really dont want to get thinner fans becuase i havent seen any premade ones like FAL has for Hondas...
If all i have to do is notch the shroud then a notching we will go.
Taintid62 09-29-2002, 01:43 AM nice engine it so clean and purdy. but will it be the same in a b14 chassis? and if i have to get slimline fans (if i do the turbo) where can i find them?
