when i was changing my oil yesterday i noticed the oil leaking again, i wiped it all off and it seemed to be coming from the seal... how much to replace and how hard is it?

Part is like $6 from Courtesy. The problem is that you need to yank the cv joint out to do it. That requires lossening the axle bolt and the shock strut-to-knuckle bolts up. Then swing the caliper out of the way a bit and yank the CV joint out. If it's the passengers side you also need to remove the middle support bearing bolts which you can see when you are chaning the oil.

If you have never done it before, it could be a decent sized project. If you are slightly mechanically inclined, I bet you can do it in an hour if it's just one side.

PM me if you need help. I hate to admit it, but I learned the hard way with this process.:( I now have CV removal mastered.:)

i hate to admit, but i have the same problem, small tranny oil leak, pass. side. i have replaced the seal 4 times, and no luck, it still leaks. i wonder if the guy who welded my tranny case warped it.

How far are you driving the seal in?

I had a problem with an axle seal leaking badly. It was installed flush with the case. I installed a second one, same problem. I replace the remanufactured axle and that fixed the problem. The diameter of the first remanufactured axle I had was too small. I think this is a rare occurance, but it may explain your leak.

that might be my problem, i have a reman axle from advanced auto parts. nissan wanted like 350+ for one, so i made the cheap choice. i might take it back and go ape on them. the seal is flush with the case, and my bro(chevy mechanic) brought over a seal installer and did it for me, so i know it is right. i guess i will dig up my reciept and return it.
