Ok-
I have a good handle on rust repair and overall body work. In the last few weeks there have been some questions on how to repair rust. I had two small spots that are clear in these photos. One's on the side of the fender facing the front of the car. It actually required cutting metal out and welding new metal in. The other was sanded and cut slightly and then welded in with new metal. I went overboard so to not have problems with it again. I also pulled the front end off including the lights/grill and bumper and they will all be repainted along with the rear bumper. Finally the fender where the rust was repaired will be painted and the color faded in. Total cost? Under $100 and a lot of time and patience.

Good lord Curt, that is a smugly muffler. How about a similar unit, dual 3" tips, round, pointed straight out.

Its this very muffler. It was on that car for a little under 2 years, still looks great. You'd have to weld it on though, its a universal type muffler. Stainless steel, perforated core. 2.25" center inlet. Brand: Naxos. I got it for $160 new. PM me if you are interested...the muffler is sitting in my garage waiting for a new home/taking up space. It wouldn't sound any different than the one you have on there now.

Thanks, but I think I will pass. The muffler looks "smugly" because the bumper is off and it looks like it's sticking out 5 feet:) It's actually the same muffler you have but with the "DTM" effect. Up to this point in the argument I am still for buying it. It's what you said about it sounding like mine that would make me puke. I hate the way it sounds and would do just about anything to get rid of it. Yours looks nice, but I think I will pass.

Thanks,

I only said it was ugly because I'm not a fan of DTM tips.

Pretty much any dual tip muffler you buy is going to be pretty loud. If you think about it, its almost equivalent to having a 6" tip. Do you know loud that is?

Most of those dual tipped, perforated core, pretty polished mufflers just have one big chamber in the middle opening up to two holes. To make your exhaust quieter, in addition to the muffler you NEED a resonator and a cat. Otherwise, stick with just a single tip that doesn't let those exhaust gases pass through so obtrusively :)

Good luck in your search!

Ybe right about the muffler because I have a Thrush resonator and it didn't make it much quieter at all.

Oh well:rolleyes:

How long does that kind of repair take, to cutout and weld new metal in place. I have some rusty areas near the wheel wells (rear of both front tires and front of both rear tires) that will need to be fixed sometime. They are rusted enough that I know new metal will be needed.

Much like anything, it depends on how good you are. If you have done it before, it would only take about 30min. for a small spot to be taken out and a new piece welded in. The long part of it is then shaping it and sealing it up so it doesn't come back. It's not something you can do start to finish on a Sat. afternoon. You could start Friday and have it done by Sunday night if everything went well. There again, it's more of an issue of letting everything dry versus 48 hours of pure labor. I can help it you want.
