i'm in the market for a new clutch and was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the ACT Xtreme vs. Heavy Duty pressure plates. aside from the increased torque capacity, are there any disadvantages of the Xtreme plate (e.g. not as good for daily driving, more stress on tranny)? thanks.

Yep, both of those :) I personally think the act clutches suck, but others will disagree. Check out clutchnet and clutch specialties also. Do a search in the forum archives; I've written a couple of very long detailed posts about clutches.

Dont know about stress on your tranny, but definately more stress on your calf muscle. I felt a guys heavy duty pressure plate the other day (SANDMAN) and it was considerably stiff. IMHO heavy duty would suffice. I bought a clutchmasters stage 1 w/HD PP. I would suggest checking out somebodys ride that has one. Then make a choice.

i have act hd, and mine is easy. all you have to do is CHANGE the clutch cable, and it will work 10x easier. my clutch feels easier than my eclipse gt, which is stock, and hydrolic, but stock, it is stiffer.

Brian- how much hp/torque are you making? the HD is good for 241 ft-lbs according to ACT, so i'm just wondering if you experience any slipping.

I have the ACT HD/SS. When the road/track is REAL sticky, first gear slips. I can still break traction, but it takes a bit more coaxing. I still haven't been able to chirp 3rd. I should've went with the Clutchnet set up. I like the ACT pp, but the disk is crap. I only have 3000 miles on the clutch. YMMV

Sonny, i have a bbdet with t25 and have boosted as much as 12psi on race gas, without a problem. i havent made it to a dyno yet, but i will soon. my clutch has about 2500 miles on it, and 3rd gear rubber is not a problem. at the track, i really smoked 1st and 2nd, bad. i am happy with it, and when the time comes, i will get the 6 puck set up. i have always liked act, but thats my opinion.

If you're thinking about the puck setup, you should get a cluthnet SPRUNG 6-puck disk. Its easier on your tranny. And I've herd that it doesnt chatter NEAR as much as the ACT 6-puck disk.

There is the NSD109 (stock disc) NSD109S(StreetDisc) for the act line. The "S" disc is suppose to be a newer addition to the sr20 line up according to their website. Looking at the "S" disc it appears have copper like shavings in bedded in the organic material. I do recall seeing a stock disc with this before but more mettalic like looking shaving in it. Its seems that the "S" disc has more. For what its worth it might help in the "heat" department,
since they both have the same torque specs. I had the act stock set up with t-25 and it lasted a little over a 1 1/2 . Also i have i tried the clutchnet(crap for me/good for others). The six 6puck act seemed to be the best clutch overall. The pedal feel was SOFTER than STOCK clutch i was surprised. Yes it does chatter if you engage to low of rpm but it GRABS. I drive 100 miles a day in my turbo se-r with it and in commute traffic. I used to give pucks a bad wrap but then again i was just going by what people said and didnt experience it for myself. Theres all kinds of pro/cons for each set-up .
