Yesterday I was checking out a leak from the oil pressure sending unit that I was told about the last time I had my car at the tire shop. After taking a look I'm convinced the leak is coming from the power steering. I also flushed the steering fluid while working on the car and found that the 15 year old rubber hoses aren't real pliable and that's my guess as to why it's leaking. Couldn't really pinpoint the exact source though.

To me it looked like the majority of fluid must be leaking from the bigger hose on the back of the reservoir, the one that heads directly to the pump. Is that hose something I can only get from the dealership?

Also, are there generally other spots on the power steering that are prone to leaking? The car is a DD, but I'm kinda debating just eliminating the whole power steering system if it's likely to be a bunch more hassle.

I've been having the same problem with one of my b13s. The engine is out right now though, and I noticed the boot on the rack is torn on the passenger side right below where the PS pump would be. I'm starting to think maybe my rack was leaking. My question is, do you have a crap-load of power steering fluid that's dripping off your passenger side control arm? If so, you should check out your rack...no pun intended.

You can buy the hose at the parts store. I think it was $30 when I bought mine.

We had a leak at the hose clamp between the heat exchanger and the pump after swapping engines on our LeMons car. A bit more twist with the screwdriver seems to have cured it for the moment.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to try and see if replacing the 2 hoses coming from the reservoir will stop the majority of leaking. I tightened up the clamps in the past and that seemed to slow it down, but now it's acting up again.

And yes SR20?, there was a lot of residue on the passenger side control arm. I think most of it trickled down from the reservoir hoses though, hopefully. Boots on the rack didn't seem to be filled with fluid, maybe a tad coming from that area though.
