We got hit by Isadore late last week and i didnt have time to cover my hood scoop to stop water from getting in the engine bay and to make matters worse i didnt have the valve cover on the head (its being powder coated).
So yesterday i go to look over the car to make sure everything is ok and i see water in the turbo oil drain port....so i take the bolt out of the oil pan and nothing but water comes out. My cylinders were also full of water.
I plan on doing a rebuild any way but will this hurt my crank or any other major engine peices?
My camshaft lobes now have surface rust on them, i will be steel wooling that off.

thanks
Nikko

OK basically there is water everwhere short of the Intake manifold. Dude that is serious. I don't know how and where oil galley's run in a SR but it is possible that water may have damaged your crank if you had water in the oil pan.

If your motor was submerged with water for the whole time than nothing should have went wrong. You shouldnt have to worry, its the same concept of wood and water. Keep it in water its still strong, take it out and leave it to dry and it gets brittle and damaged. Just make sure you put back oil in when the water was drained. Then prime the motor up a lil to recoat the metal surfaces.

well im in the middle of dismantling the block, it has no cams, exhaust manifold, radiator, distibutor on it at the moment so i dont want to turn it over....cause i know that will cause some damage. So ill just buy som e oil and let it seep though the motor by itself.

thanks for the help!

i feel bad, a SR20 down the drain. the internals will almost immediately start rusting. my dumbass friend blew his head gasket and i got to it ASAP but the bores rusted real bad almost seizing the engine

Nothing happens to the engine. Only if you leave the water to dry in there will the bores and ect. start to rust. I had water in my engine, about 4+ quarts worth. Aparently importers love to wash the engine down. I took apart my motor and no such signs were evident.
