My starter just like everyone else has had the nice little noises in the starter when starting the car. How hard is it to change the starter. have changed many but never attempted it on this one. How and/or where can i get info on doing so. Where can i get the best price on a new starter? Thank you for your info.

Changing the starter is pretty simple. I just replaced mine a month ago. Not sure of a good step-by-step, but you have to take off the air intake up to the throttle body. This will give you access to the two bolts that support it. Next go under the car, and disconnect the electrical connections. Then go back up and loosen the two bolts that support it, they run through the bell housing (14 mm I think). Then just removed her and replaced her. I had to have a second set of hands for the install, so that one person could hold it in place and the other person run the bolts from the top. I had to get one fast, so I got mine from Autozone for $130. From Nissan they're about $210

IIRC, it is a lifetime warranty. can't find my receipt right now though, so it might not do any good!

Can I get a starter from any year SR20s? I heard Mitsubishi made starters are better and cheaper than Hitachi made.
Here is the link on SE-R.net. this is where I got the info from.

it's true about hitachi starters. more parts on it are uncovered and exposed to the elements so they tend to crap out sooner than mitsubishis. i dont know about the price but you should be able to find that out pretty easily.
i also need a new starter so i sent 75 bucks to andreas miko yesterday, despite his lack of email responses. i hope all the people that recommended him here werent kidding...
