Every now and then after the car has been sitting and the engine is cool, I hear a strange sound coming from the engine on the drivers hand side. It only lasts about a second and goes away. I've put thought into it hopefully being the starter. Anyone know if this is a common problem among SR20's? My Maxima used to have a very loud, very long starter whine after start-up and had success disassembling and re-greasing the gears to make it quiet again. The grease that was in there (assumably from 1993) was hard and clumpy, perhaps I'll have the same results with the Sentra?

Any input with knowledge of the source is greatly appreciated...

I thought I was the only one with the problem. It seems to happen when I start the car in the morning....even though my SER is parked in the garage. Would a new starter fix the problem?

regreasing should fix the sound. it's more annoying that an actual problem. i don't think it hurts the starter or anything.

could just be a faulty starter...had the same problem with my sister 95 sentra gxe....switch out a new starter or if not the starter might be cocked eye...

actually i think its lack of oil psi on start up. common on sr20s

both of my b13s did this. i always thought it had something to do with the starter or the throw out bearing
