: Help!!!
unlucky 09-23-2002, 06:34 PM The car is falling on it's face when it's floored. Partial throttle boost is fine.. but when I lay into it.. it makes no power. EGT's are fine, fuel pressure is fine, plugs look fine. I noticed that under full throttle, I can hear the wastegate pulsating. It sounds weird. I am running the Tial.. and it's open to the atmosphere. I have a Techtom hooked up... if anyone can give me any kind of advice.. I would appreciate it.. I'm so frustrated with this thing.. I don't know what else to do. Here's what I've done so far..
New Fuel pump
new ECU
new MAF
new 02
checked for air leaks
checked timing
checked cam timing
ran (4) 4 guage grounds from the chassis to the block
new battery
checked altenator
checked belt to altenator
regrounded sensors
Someone throw me a bone here.. thanks for the help..

bl200sx 09-24-2002, 01:43 PM hummmmm.......maybe the wastegate is bad, or not hooked up right.
Hector Firpo 09-24-2002, 05:34 PM Did you check the TPS voltage?
unlucky 09-24-2002, 06:30 PM I checked it with the techtom, it was getting as high as 4.6 volts. I have another one on order...
Big John 09-24-2002, 06:40 PM Honestly to fix the problem, first you should learn to quit sitting around and eating Eskimo Pies all of the time, the problem won't fix itself. Second, you should actually learn somethng about simple mechanics, Ohm's Law, forced induction, ect. prior to working on a vehicle, and third, some simple common sense and deductive reasoning may help. Hope this clears up your problems!:D ;) :p
EDIT- Travis is a good friend and I couldn't resist givin em hell
John
unlucky 09-24-2002, 06:43 PM lol.. funny.. hey.. you were the one who wanted Eskimo pies the other day when we BBQ'd.
Wicked R 09-24-2002, 10:36 PM WHAT!!! YOU CHECKED IT WITH A TECHTOM!!??!! WHERE'D YOU GET THAT FROM?? ;) I was wondering where mine went... :p Maybe you should just stick your motor into my car and call it a day... :D
*EDIT: Travis is one of my best friends, I couldnt help but give him shit too*
nsracer 09-25-2002, 10:43 AM Just out of curiosity... what's your base fuel pressure (vacuum line disconected). Also, you say you're getting 4.6 max volts out of the TPS... what minimum are you getting and is the increase progressive (it doesn't just start low and then all of the sudden just jump to 4)....
Yellow4g63 09-25-2002, 12:33 PM Ur car is ODB2 right? If *** Techtom dosen't show knock try and find a 2G DSM guy with a pocket logger. hook it up and see if ur getting any knock, and see what the timming is doing.

93BlackBird 09-25-2002, 12:46 PM like another person said sweep the TPS snsor and look for spikes or drops while you slowley turn the throttle. Good luck if you are using some sort of analog ohm meter :D
unlucky 09-25-2002, 01:36 PM I see that the knock sensor is supposed to be on a 45* angle to the front of the block.. What is the signifigance of that? I don't have mine on an angle to the front of the block.. I have it facing toward the tranny.. Would that pose a problem? The timing is dropping out when I get on it. I noticed that with the techtom.

unlucky 09-25-2002, 01:37 PM The TPS is set at about .44 volts at closed throttle. It just jumps way up at WOT.
93BlackBird 09-25-2002, 02:05 PM the point of the TPS is to see not what it gets to but how it gets there. Does it go smooth and progressive or does it just jump. You will need some sort of digital graph for this honestly
unlucky 09-25-2002, 02:08 PM How do I go about that? What type of instrument should I use?
nsracer 09-25-2002, 03:01 PM Use a DVOM to check the TPS voltage. Now, you're saying it's backing off timing when you get on it? What's you base timing at? You're running 91 octane, right? Explain what the timing is doing when you get on it...
93BlackBird 09-25-2002, 03:25 PM you will probably have to look for a shop that has a Snap on Vantage or similar DVOM. Mine looks like this

http://nissan.nissanpower.com/images/vantage%203.jpg
The screen pic is just a shot of a typical component test screen. Basicly you pick make and motor and it gives you a list of sensors and how to test them, and what the terminals are for.
unlucky 09-25-2002, 06:47 PM The timing when cruising.. is around 35-38 degrees. When I go WOT or the ECU goes into closed loop, the timing goes down to about 8 or 9 degrees.
cursed92 09-25-2002, 06:55 PM do u put on the knock sensor on your self, because maybe u over tightened it. it's supposed to be torqued at 12lbs. and if it's over tighten it'll be too sensitive and there for retarding timing when not needed.
Just a possiblity.
Walter, from N. Cal
unlucky 09-26-2002, 01:14 AM that's a very good possibility... I will check it. Does the angle have any signifigance?
Travis
Wicked R 09-26-2002, 01:58 AM Travis...
Yes the angle of the knock sensor is important... check in the FSM for guidance...
