: rubber door/targa seals
ride154 09-24-2002, 09:57 AM Did anyone replace those rubber door/targa seals on a nx?
When it rains real hard when I drive, they leak
at the point were the door seals meet the targa seals?
And it rain here quite often at the moment,
so it isn't funny any more?
Any pointers on replacing them?
tanx
Pretty White 09-24-2002, 02:52 PM Yeah, LONEWOLF DID IT. Let him tell you about the "incident" he had with it.
As far as the leaks, you can stretch them and spray silicone spray on them to make them more pliable. That what I do.
Fonque 09-24-2002, 03:04 PM i think the other trick to squeeze some more life out of them is you can take all the seals off and soak them in mothers back to black and it will make the rubber expand some. something like that cant quite remember if thats what you soak them in my friend did it for his 89 mr2

I have the GA16DS engine and it definitely help
the engine revs more easily and revs higher.
With the standard catback (straw), it started to
sputter when I passed the 5000 rpms.
Now I can easily redline it.
I have no proof for it, but by my ass-in-the-seat
feeling says it pulls much better to the redline.
In third gear it never passed the 90 km/h (55m/h),
now it pulls strongly in third gear to 120 km/h (75m/h)
at about 6000 rpms, without redlining it.
redline is I think 6300 rpms, something like that.
I got it for about 400 guilders, thats 180 euroos and
190 dollars, but a friend of mine bought it for a discount.
I think normal price is 700 gld/320euro/330 dollars.
Very solid construction, I have it now for about 5 to 6
years and it doesn't rust or whatever.
The chrome tip is nice and fat and still shiny as what!
In the Netherlands everything that can rust will rust,
so I think I can say it's a very high quality exhaust.
In that same time I already had to replace the piece
between the header and the cat, twice,so that sucks bigtime.
well thats for being a cheapskate, huh?
One day I'll go stainless steal, fo ***!!!:D

ok my question is how hard is it to take off the seals????? can i do it or do i need a mechanic????
LONEWOLF 10-08-2002, 09:48 AM you have to adjust the window and spray silcon once a week when you get them new spray with some lite oil because since they are new they will rip (i done so to mine the first day they are under warrantie) and when you spray the silcone spray on the t tops and the rubber around the t-top. (you have to get those new too) and the inside i reapeat inside where the water will run! so that should cure it but the most important is to adjust the window ever six months you can take off the seal there easy have plenty of oil and a high torque drive 12-18 volt (dewalt) for the top two screws on the car (DO NOT STRIP THE BOLT ARE IN THE FRAME TAKE YOUR TIME USE LOTS IF OIL BECUSE MOST NX'S I SEEN HAVE RUSTED BECAUSE OF WATER, OILING YOU T-TOPS IS THE KEY. and you make think this sound stupid but take your t-tops as often as you can. especially on hot days becuse the rubber shrinks under the t-tops i guess it is too much pressure.
ride154 10-08-2002, 10:05 AM What do you mean by adjusting your window?
Do you mean those thingies were the window slides over?
Those things are already at the highest point,
can adjust them anymore without cutting or
drilling holes in my door on the inside!
When my windows are open, they also rattle!
Has that something to do with it?
Or do I also need new windowslide-thingies
and new doorseals at the bottom of my window?
Do yall also get the whistle when driving past 95 mph?
just around the window meets targa area!

Heej,
Alvast bedankt!

The whistle is because the rubber seal at the side of the quarter window sealing the drivers window is shrunken. What I did was use a strip of door guard (the kind with silicone in the crack) and put it behind/underneath the rubber to "build it up". Pry the rubber back and you will see this metal strip. Put (slide) the doorguard on it and put the weatherstripping backover it. It will now be built up.
If you were close by I could adjust your window for you. It really is a two man job. One to align it to its limit and one to tighten all the adjustment bolts in the door. Thats how Lonewolf and I do it.
Here it is. Do not link it. It will not open (bootleg server) Copy and paste the URL.

This is on my webpage hidden somewhere. I had a whole bunch of shit on it. :) . I must look it over one day! :(

Alvast bedankt!
<graag gedaan en jij ook bedankt!>

ride154 10-09-2002, 03:18 AM Fix your website dude!
If you have all that info on your site,
I need to have a good look at all the
stuff you got on there.
LONEWOLF 10-09-2002, 11:32 AM I guess one day we should take pictures and post them pretty white now that i have a new camcorder that takes pictures two

If you cannot see the link it is because you have to copy and paste the URL to your browser? I hope it helps some.
ride154 10-10-2002, 03:58 AM I tried the copy paste thing, but all I got
was the angelfire website, with the search
thing!
not your actual site!
and when I search for an nx I get about
2 million hits (maybe just maybe a bit less)
and I'm to lazy to browse thrrough 'em all.
sorrie.
