my brother and i were on our way to apprenticeship school, not even a block from my house. when a lady hit me head on with her lexus es300. she turned right into the driverside of my front bumper and left quite a impression needless to say. well i hurt my sholder and neck pretty bad and my brother was plastered to the roof and windshield and almost rolled out the window before i yanked him back in the car. she never turned the ignition off in her car so it kept purging the fuel pump. and the cars engine bay cought on fire. her car was like brand new, and now its totaled. if she would have turned off the key in her car she could have gotten it fixed. but my car is completely totaled. i couldn't have been going over 20mph, cause i shifted into second when it happened. i think she was flying into the turn though.

my condolences. I just hope the lady didn't tell the cops it was your fault. It sucks when the believe the person with the better car. (or newer and more expensive anyways)

oh man...sorry to hear about that. but it's good to hear that everyone made it out fairly ok. i'm surprised that the lexus doesn't have a safety mechanism that automactically shuts off the engine after a "serious" impact. with bmws, if you were to get into a collision of the type you described, the car would shut itself off, and i believe the battery connectors would pop itself off via small explosives so you won't have potential sparks. the car would also turn on its hazard ligths and unlock all doors. german engineering...mmmm.

Damn Jimmy, I am so sorry to hear that. I'll pray for fast mending.

Jo mamma - if the car blew the battery terminals off with small explosives that = sparks.

And if it did that, it wouldn't be able to turn on the blinkers or unlock the doors...

perhaps it unlocks the doors and throws a circuit breaker or something?

Lots of cars, even cheap ones, have fuel pump shut off switches in the event of a hard hit or roll over..

Damn man, sorry to hear about that. I know how it is, my dads 98 mountaineer got totalled on the day I was moving into college. They just picked up a 2003 accord though, fully loaded 3.0 240hp V-6. I told em to get the altima.:o

chris,
let me clarify what i was trying to say - the "battery safety terminal" device severs the connection between the battery and starter cable to prevent short circuit. so i suppose that is how the battery (which is located in the trunk), can still power the door locks, hazard lights and interior lights. it does use a "pyrotechnic charge" to separate the terminal - i can't explain how that is safe, but i wouldn't doubt that it is.
my point is the same as yours - lexus (aka *luxury* division of toyota) should have some sort of fuel cut off/spark prevention mechanism in the case of severe collisions. i only use bmws as an example b/c i've read about/am familiar with their safety features.

I'm sorry you got hurt man, that sucks. I'd get a lawyer because you can have long term injuries that don't manifest until later on. Maybe see more than one doctor about your injuries as well. I don't wish any bad things on anyone, but I'm glad her POS Lexus burst into flames. That's what happens when you insult an SE-R with a Lexus. She could have at least hit you with another Nissan, that at least would have been dignified. But the Lexus, what a kick below the belt. I'd part the car out if you feel you can turn a profit after buying it from the In$urance company. Might not be worth your time, especially if your healing is going to take awhile. It's sad to see someone get hurt and to see another classic gone.

thanks alot guys i really appreciate your support. no the police already determined that it was her fault for taking my right of way from me. they also determined that she never slowed down in the turn either. so who honestly knows just how fast she hit me. i know i just shifted into second so i couldn't have been going but 15-20mph at the most. luckily no one was brutally hurt, and that it wasn't my 200sx involved(thank god!) now the worst part is getting another car and re-embursed for lost time and all that stuff.

once again guys your the best and thanks for your support!!!!!!!

He already has a nasty turbo on his 200, that's the reason he had the classic as a daily driver.

I don't agree with the whole "sue for everything they got" mentality that everbody has today. Everybody makes mistakes. One of these days you're going to make a mistake and hit somebody and then you'll be hoping they don't sue you for everything you have.

i agree that you shouldn't take her to the bank, but you should go for cost of car and any lost wages and stuff like that medical too. i've been hit by 2 drunk drivers and lost both trucks because of it and have had to settle with breaking even in the deal beacuse they were both brand new trucks( one was a month old and the other was still had the temp plate on it). get what you can and allows you to sleep at night.

I second that. I wouldn't want to be in her position and get sued for everything. Sorry about your loss dude. I hate seeing one less se-r on the road.

besides, when anyone's insurance pays for damage to anyone else's car, everyone's premiums go up. in a perfect world, there would be no accidents and no need for insurance. but as long as we're human, we're damned, in a way.

on the fuel pump cut off thing, my parents bought a 96 ford probe new, and it had a switch in the trunk/hatch, whatever, that cut power to the fuel pump incase of accident/rollover/etc. the reason i know this is because the switch or whatever it was was a pos. the car died 2 times in 1 day. it died in the morning, called ford, they got it, "fixed it" brought it back to us, and it died again that day. in any account, sorry about your loss, and only try to collect what is owed to you.

OK ok dont sue, besides, it's her insurance co. that will have to pay thats why we pay premiums up the wazoo, for if there's ever a case like this where a woman who can afford a $40k SUV can just be careless and whip around corners like there's no other car on the road, that seems to be the case around here, people with luxury SUV's drive as if they were the only ones on the road, tailgating, switching lanes without a signal, speeding etc. so it was bound to happen one of these days, just some of my experiences......
