: Clutch chatter

The Classic that I bought has a slight case of clutch chatter.
According to the owner the car has a new JWT clutch and pressure plate that was installed by SR20DEVELOPMENT, he also has the receipt so i believe him. Some people have told me that the chatter is normal for this set-up but Tevs has the same set-up on his classic and he does not have the same problem.

Is this really normal?

What causes the chatter?

What can I do to fix it?

TIA

Change your driving habits to eliminate chatter. I have an ACT 6 Puck solid center clutch and it doesn't chatter anymore because I learned how to drive it.

I might agree that the setup could be causing it. I have a 2k1 disc and a JWT PP. The thing does chatter if I don't give it some gas when I take off. Even then, it chatters a bit up till about 1300rpm.

At first I thought that was because I didn't resurface my flywheel and that maybe some grease got on the disc. However, I have also read that this is common. What I can say is this; after I broke it in well---600 miles, I did some hard launches---4,000-5,000 rpm and things seem to have gotten at least 75% better. Now it only chatters about 5% of the time--only when I let it out at idle and mash the gas does it SLIGHTLY chatter.

Give it some time and see what happens.

Oh yea---I haven't driven the car like that since and don't plan to either.:)

Good luck!

Thanks for the input Curt, I'll give it some time and see if it gets better.

Yep mine too I thought I my drag strip weekends had caused this problem with mine but now I am once again not the only one with the same problems. Like Shumax said if you give it a little throttle it want even occur.

hey Shumax ever get rid of the clutch pop we talked about before?

Depends:) I haven't driven the car in two months as it has been under the knife for some rust repair:

http://photos.yahoo.com/shus93ser got to: RUST REPAIR

The last time I was driving it, it was about 100% gone. I did get under the dash and take the cable off of the pedal and lubed it up real good with some bearing grease. Then I slapped it all back together and it seems to work OK. The kicker is that I can MAKE the noise occur is I want. All I have to do is release the cluthc pedal crazy slow. Do that, and it will pop ever so slightly. However, even then it will only do it one time out of 4 tries.

Basically, I said F-it. If something goes wrong, I will deal with it then. The take up is smooth, the engagement is smooth and it grabs like a mofo so why sit around and worry about it? The lack of grease on the TO bearing is another topic:( I have a feeling that will cause some issues in the future. Let's hope not;)

hey just for your info, i did break the clutch in well over 500 miles.
i called chis about the chatter and he said that it was normal. i have also heard that he resurfaces the flywheel with a wire wheel, so that may be the problem. how is the car running besides the clutch??
