: Should I flush my tranny?

Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I haven't changed my tranny oil for about 50k miles now.

Just found out that I'm suppose to change it every 30k miles. Last time I had that done was when the dealer changed the leaky sensor. Stupid me!!!!!!

Anyway, need to change the tranny fluid.
Question, should I take the car to a mechanic to flush out the tranny before filling it with Redline MT-90?

While I'm on the topic....how tough is it to replace the 02 sensor (which I assume is the exhaust sensor in the FSM) and the clutch cable? Any references that you can point me to would really be great!

PS. Why have the prices of the parts gone up sooo much compared to SE-R.net part prices? Is this for real?

Buy an O2 sensor tool. It is something you will use on any car you buy in the future. A wise investment. Use WD40, soak the o2 and then screw it out. Make sure WD40 doesn't go on the new sensor.

Yeah, the tranny is supposed to be sealed for life but thats a crock of shit. :)

you cant flush a manual tranny like you can an auto. at leats thats what i was told by my instructor at school. i just drained it and filled it with mt-90. its a bitch filling it back up though. i used a really long funnel and had someone else pour it while i held in the tranny. theres got to be a better way to do this...........

Link to clutch cable replacement:

Check the site index on www.se-r.net for a lot of the general how-to's

The O2 sensor is really easy to replace. Without question, the best penetrant I've found on the market is P-Blaster. You can buy it at Wal-Mart, has a yellow cap. As Pretty White said, make sure you don't get it on the sensor. Use some anti-seize putting it back in, and don't get that close to the sensor either. When I removed mine this weekend, the adapter came out with it. I presume a new one doesn't come with the adapter. 22 mm for the sensor, 32 for the adapter, if I remember correctly.

First of all....I would like to thank you for the tips.

I just recently helped my friend change his transmission oil on his JDM GSR Honda. For some reason, we were not able to get the tranny fluid in through the fill hole, there was some kind of cotter pin in it that was blocking the hole (which also was really small). After purchasing different types of hoses and trying different ways of forcing it in....we gave up and he called up his Honda pals to find out if there is an easier way to do it.

Finally, one guy came by and told us to fill in the tranny fluid through the speed sensor. Lo and behold....easy job!

Can we fill our tranny through the speed sensor?

Also, he used Mobil 1 Synthetic Fluid to fill his tranny. I remember reading something about Hondas able to use motor oil as tranny fluid while our SE-Rs cannot. Am I right about about this?

FYI, I'm going with Redline MT-90 and will be ordering a case from myoil. With the dealer code, the cost of it is only 7.17 a quart. Which is a lot cheaper than the price offered to me here in Oklahoma ($9 a quart). Hehehehehehehehe.

Anyway, thanks again.

One last thing....SE-Rs list are so much friendlier than Honda lists. That's one of the reasons my friend always ask me when it comes to his car. Not that I know much (as you can possibly see) but he knows the forum/list is the source of all information.

You can use the speed sensor to fill the tranny....but then you won't really know when its properly filled.

Just use the hold on the front of the tranny; it faces the radiator and you can get it off with a 3/8" drive ratchet. Use a trans. oil funnel & tube and it won't take longer than 5-10 minutes to pour down that nice Redline oil. Fill it up till it starts leaking out of the fill hole and you are done!

I have to fill through the speedo on on my SE-R,
damn filler plug stripped out. If you drain
all the old fluid out first you'll know exactly how much is called for to put back in.

Wrap a strip of beer can around the ratchet head
so it fits real snug in the plug and doesn't strip out. Don't forget to clean all the little bits of ground up gear off the magnetic drain plug.

Get the Bosch O2 sensor, it is the EXACT same one as the Nissan but way cheaper.

Dr. Kwak....
Thanks for referring to the Bosch O2 Sensor....
Just went to Autozone and they are only selling it for $62 only.
That's a really good deal compared to the OEM part.

Performance part dealers here in Norman Oklahoma are really cut-throats.
Guess how much they want for Redline MT-90, $18 a quart!
Guess they have to make a profit. A full 100% markup.

Hehehehehehehehe.

No problem. My buddy and I compared the two
on his DET and noticed they even had the same
part number.

Check out the other local hot rod shops or
order some Redline, I bet it would still end
up cheaper than $18/qt.
