weird stuff is going on. I need help. Here goes when accelerating hard or not the car gets very loud and loses power around 3500 or so. The car idles fine and drives fine until I step on the gas. The noise is not intake but exhaust my thoughts are the cat is clogged but I don't know. I have no time in the next few days to pull it apart. I know this may seem vague but I am really distressed so if anyone can help and needs more info I can give it.

pinpoint where the noise is coming from. I wouldnt think a clogged cat would make it louder, but I dont know. To check you just take it off and look at it.

I bet its your CAT, same thing happened to me, but my intake note got really aggressive as I aproached 3500 rpm and the car felt like it lost about 60 hp + sure enough took the cat off and it was just about completely melted. I forced water through just to see what would come out the tail pipe and nothing can out.

same thing happened to my car---turned out to be a worn out intake came due to a clogged oil tube. Id take of your VC and check things out.

I would say its gotta be the cat. I know when i had my 2nd gen rx-7, my exaust note got really quiet, but right near the exaust manifold it was quite loud. I lost so much power too. Took that sucker off and it completely broke apart on the inside and caved in causing massive blockage. Get a nice random tech cat, and ull be fine.

It is the cat and it is from Random Tech. I have only had it since march and the inner material has seperated from the stainless shell. I think they are going to exchange it for me. Needless to say I was suprised that it failed but it seems they are going to make good on it.
