I have a video down below P.S. I know I have an exhaust leak and I know the clicking of the injectors incase someone says something about that
Car is a 99 g20.I been having this knocking noise in my motor for quite sometime. About 2 weeks I installed 264 duration camshafts and I did broke them in right. Ran high idle for 20mins and I drove under 4k rpm until 150miles(to keep safe). Now, I just started to notice a knocking noise(this noise has became louder). It sounds like its under the car when you are inside the car.But looking at the motor, its hard to determined where is it coming from. just 20mins ago I went to go hear it again and got a screw driver to hear the noise and was putting it in places around the head and the knocking is loud most at the right side end of the intake camshaft(facing the motor). I also have a safc2 and I did set up the knock sensor on it and at idle(while car is warmed up from driving) its detecting 10 while before the cam install it was at 1-5knock(after driving around for 20mins), but it goes to zero if its over 1k rpm.Is it normal for this knocking sound after a cam install or are my valves going bad?
B]P.S. I know I have an exhaust leak and I know the clicking of the injectors incase someone says something about that, its the louder noise[/B]

sounds like a stuck lifter...needs bleeding probably. did u pull any lifter out while doing the cam swap?

nope. just did a straight swap without touching anything. How do you bleed a lifter?I just got done talking to a friend who builds KA and SRs and he told me to use 10-40 oil since that is what he uses on all his motor builds. Im currently using 5-30.what do you guys think?

i think everyone uses 10-40 lol. if u didnt touch the lifter i dont see how air could go in....but still a possibility. the have to be submerged in oil and depressed untill all the bubbles are gone. look it up on google lol. ive done it before. it makes the engine idle more silently. try changing the oil and see if the noise goes away.. does the noise go away when u rev it a little or it gets worse?

another thing. double check that alternator bolt!

which bolt?.and is it causing the noise or u just saw it in the video? Its tight and I changed my belts like 5 months ago, but the noise is coming from the right side(battery side) of the motor

You did not set the timing correct. recheck.

Does it go away when you press your clutch in? I thought I had rod knock til a buddy came by and pressed my clutch in, it was my tranny.

nope not at all.tranny is perfect condition. i got a stethoscope earlier and the noise is really loud on the right side of the head(facing the motor).

so you think theres nothing wrong? thats what others said to me also.they told me its because I have bigger profile cams..and I know nissan motors are loud. had a 240sx with a KA and SR..

what happens if I use 10-40 oil?i used that all the time in my 240sx to quiet the valve train.I just never used it on my p11 yet...i dont know if it will affect performance or what...

I didn't hear anything besides the injectors clicking. Once you add cams, header and intake, your engine isn't going to be as quiet as stock.

i don't know anymore. the knocking sounds pretty loud. the only thing i can think of is re-torquing the bearing caps. I'm really hoping its not a valve or rod knock.but the car runs fine.the knocking sound is annoying.it does get high pitch when I rev it or race it. its louder from underneath the car. if im next to another car, i can hear it loud and clear.i know the sound of the injectors.and this one sounds like to metal objects hitting eachother or something that is loose

are you sure its not the bottom end bearings?

i dont know whats wrong.the car runs great.this sound just appeared last week when I was warming up my car.i just noticed that its loud when its just idling around 750-900, but when its warming up, I don't hear anything.

It's not a rod bearing 100%. I just listened to it again, and it sounds normal to me.

if you have just started hearing it and it sounds normal to eric96ser then it should be fine ive never heard it so cant really help ya dude but if it dies out when its warmed up its defo sumin in the top end but dont forget the sr20 is noisy anyway
