I know it's supposed to be in Kansas City for 2003, but I havn't heard anything further since this years convention. I'm just curious what's going on. I need to make plans ahead of time as I'm sure many others do as well. Thanks!

It's being planned. Don't worry. :)

The convention planning is in its earliest stages right now. Brad Woolworth and Dave Miller (you might have met them at last year's convention) are the head honchos in this affair.

The tentative date is set for September 12-14, 2003. That's based on when the road course at Heartland Park Topeka could be secured.

Prior conventions have ranged from early March to mid-June, so this is going to be the first fall national convention. Temperatures should be great, so I hope you all won't be crushed for waiting a few more months.

The official convention website will be up early next year. We're looking into cutting out a lot of the paper involved in registration. If all goes to plan (fingers crossed), this could be the first convention where all registration and document handling can be done online. I'm going to look into having all the maps and timetables online and ready to download in .pdf format, so all attendees will be "on the same page."

For right now, there's not much to report. The convention machine will wind up as more info comes together.

No, not September! Ugh.

Is Heartland Park available in the summer? I'm sure you guys have looked into this. Spring/summer is just a better vacation/fun time for me, as I cover college football for a living.

Argh.

I'll probably be in the middle of doing research for my thesis, but what the hell. Hey Greg, so what did you think about the FSU game? Heh...

Interesting, my B-day is Sept. 15. Yall be sure and bring lots of gifts, or I'll settle for some raffle tickets :D Thanks for the update fellas. I know planning for the convention has to be very time consuming and a draining endeavor to say the least. It is greatly appreciated. Didn't want anyone to think I was being ungrateful.

Those dates really clash with people in school. Most schools, both high school and college, are out for the spring around the Memorial Day weekend. If this is all we have, then it will do.

I'm not sure of the exact details, so at the risk of putting words in Brad's mouth, it was a take it or leave deal. I believe he had been trying to pin down a date well in advance, and well, the Heartland Park bossman didn't want to be pinned down. I have read and heard before that track managers can be a contrary lot, hard to get ahold of and in need of constant reminding (but not too much reminding, to stay off their bad side).

Plus, Heartland park has a road course, oval, and drag strip on site, so it's going to get a lot of bookings along with the regular assortment of club racing and pro drags.

It's September or no track day.

I happen to personally know a couple of the guys that work out at heartland park. I got the track managers name for brad right after last years convention. I think he had the guys name and info in hand and was calling him as soon as three weeks after last years convention.

Holy cow, isn't that the weekend following the Solo II Nationals in Topeka? Dang, couldn't work out better for my own vacation plans, could it?

I was thinking the same thing. Looks like I will be attending my first Solo2 Nationals next year!
